Callahan with Giardi: Is Gonzo having a down season?

Go watch some of the early games with Ty Law... you will see what I mean... he understood what the QB was doing, and when he had the chance to make a play, he took it... Watching him versus Peyton Manning in a few of those games? Thats some of the best CB play you will ever see
Oh yes I agree.. I saw plenty of plays from law primarily 97 and up.. I wasn't fully invested in the team admittedly..I was more concerned with getting to 3rd base after a date at the ground round.... at that age.

It's really key when you think about it. Tedi Bruschi "they ain't got it" game... Law vs Manning, Law in SB vs Rams, Gilmore in SB vs Rams... Guys step up in big moments, as opposed to Samuel in 2007... well... you know.

the ground round... lmao... "hey sweetie lets go take an after dinner stroll thru the combat zone while we are at it", lol

im sure you have seen him play - but its different now, when you know more and just focus on what he is doing... he was a pretty spectacular player...

Gonzo - he's so young, and has the opportunity to develop those skills
One of ty's best games ever played..

what else can i say besides...

And because I’m old… I remember Mike Haynes, Darrell Green, Deion Sanders, Eric Allen, Rod Woodson, Ty Law, Darrell Revis, and Stephon Gilmore get beat by a perfect pass and catch…. and Joe Flacco threw a perfect pass last week.

It doesn’t make Gonzo lesser… even the best got beat. You just don’t remember it.

Oh.. back then... they were impressed with the showcase cinema in dedham.. you'd always want the back row... might get a "private showcase" lmao...

Yes, very different now.. ty just had that instinct that clutch gene in him.. to your points gonzo can develop this as he's what 23?

Nah… Revis was overrated because he was in NY and they overrate everything. Anything in NY is the best… just ask them.

Law was better.
not going to argue

you can't spell elite without "Joe Flacco" ...

You don’t have to…

Darrelle Revis
145 games, 142 starts
9 playoff starts
29 regular season INT’s
3 playoff INT’s
32 total INT’s
3 INT’s returned for TD
0 playoff INT’s for a TD
4 forced fumbles
2 sacks
432 tackles (including playoff tackles)
Never lead the NFL in INT’s… not once.

Ty Law

203 games, 189 starts
13 playoff starts
53 regular season INT’s
6 playoff INT’s
59 total INT’s
8 INT’s returned for TD
1 Super Bowl INT returned for a TD
7 forced fumbles
5 sacks
707 tackles (I couldn’t include playoff tackles because they didn’t track them back then)
Lead the NFL in INT’s twice.

… because it’s not even a question.

When i made the comments of " this **** ain't working " was derived off of what ty law said about the patiots this season as to certain coverages.. he said if the coverages -Romeo were calling wasn't working he, Rodney or Bruschi would speak up and say " this **** ain't working..
"

Gonzo isn't that type of personality type was and not as accomplished yet..

Can you remember a single thing about Leigh Boddens time here? yeah, me neither.

So, the tldr version: No.
Yes I can. But at the time I was working with a personal trainer who was his cousin and they hooked me up with tickets to the preseason game with the ‘Skins at FedEx Field so I had some interest.

As I recall he was sort of a flash in the pan. Pretty good, showed promise, got injured and never got back from it, at least not to the same level of play. Too bad.

Just like @Steve102 said, yet... Gonzo is only 23... he's young, and is a great player... has the opportunity to turn into a HoF caliber player if he wants to.... the sky is the limit for the kid...

Leigh Bodden was a very good CB, similar to Carlton Davis. He was older when he arrived in NE and gets slighted because they signed him to a hefty short term contract then he suffered a career ending injury.

This was at the same time they paid Ty Warren a massive deal and he immediately suffered a career ending hip injury. Tough times for the dynasty D.

fair enough... but those types of connections to players, that stuff one does remember... Its like when i got to sit next to Dave Bavaro at a BC/Syracuse game...

honestly, without looking it up, you remember Boddens jersey number?

I don't... which is kinda the point i was making

Idk if I'd say "down season" but I have kind of felt that he isn't like blanket coverage, erase a top receiver type of player. But really more just like he's a pro bowl/all pro type of player vs. playing at a HOF level. I think maybe the hype got to be a little much where he was being looked at as a generational type of talent, and I don't know if I see him on THAT level.

What am I supposed to glean from this comment?
Wasn't he the nobody that beat Gonzo in Cincinnati. Gonzo is a good corner. Not convinced he is Gilmore or Revis.

It was a perfect pass and catch, even the best get beat… they just get beat less often.

It’s hard to notice the CB who nobody throws at for most of the game, or who makes play after play denying the pass… versus the one TD he allowed.

Flacco threw for 183 yards, threw an INT for a TD return and had a 63.2 QB Rating. He was mostly neutered.

One TD allowed by Gonzo does not make or break his career. He’ll give another one up I’m sure before it’s over. I can’t remember which game, but Gilmore had a stinker in his DPOY season.

Yes, he's just tapping into his potential and by doing that last season got him an all pro nod.. I truly believe his game is only going to continue to get better.. go figure once we can add some edge ushers up front he's really going to be able to capitalize..
