The game has gone downhill since a lot of players left. I can guarantee you fans of other teams are feeling the same way and actually think Brady gone is bad for the game.

Same with the Head Coaches. The game was better with BB patrolling the sidelines. Too many guys are being hired if they have are young and have a pulse.

The 2000's was the last great era of football. The early 2010's were still good, but things started getting stale around 2015, but fell off a cliff in 2020.

Not meaning to blow your notifications up, but just chiming in on this to say: it has gotten pretty bad. Same with basketball. There was a change in those two sports from the early 2000s era to now. From scheme and gameplan grit to hybridized, streamlined, and higher-scoring products. It sucks.
There’s a quote I read a while back that I think is generally accurate - the sport is always at its best when you first fall in love with it and have time to devote to it. For many people, that’s ages 10-14. Any major changes afterwards, and the game is “ruined”. In some cases it actually is ruined, but in others it’s just personal opinion.

I was born in 1976, and I loved late 1980s - early 1990s baseball. The game right now is too unrecognizable to me, with everyone swinging for the fences on every pitch and pitchers airing it out on every pitch rather than pacing themselves, requiring relievers to come in the game after just 18 batters faced max. At least the stolen base has come back into play recently. But I miss line drive doubles and seeing eye singles, and singles/doubles machines in general like Boggs, Gwynn, Ichiro.

My peak enjoyment of the NFL matches your timing too, although it lasted longer than MLB because there weren’t any significant changes between 1987 and 2004. After the Polian rules, the player safety initiatives, and the lack of practice time in the 2011 CBA, the game has turned into too much passing with too many mental mistakes and poor tackling.

I still enjoy it though. It’s just not how I remembered and liked it. I understand the player safety initiatives, but IMO there needs to be a counterweight to allow teams to play defense again and actually practice more.

Brady vs Peyton was a freaking event and almost always lived up to the hype.

Mahomes vs Allen? Nice but it isn’t the same. Not even close.
Mahomes/Allen is like the rivalry between the hammer and the nail

I thought Ashley was cool and I didn't have a problem with her. In fact, I thought her overreacting and banning people in the game day threads were funny. Who else remembers her signature "goodbye"? However, it did start to get out of hand as it continued within the main threads. I do remember posters were warning her months prior to the incident to stop abusing her power and kicking people out of threads.

From what I saw in real time, I knew her getting banned was inevitable. It was pretty rough seeing the onslaught of posters ganging up on her which came out of nowhere to me as I was under the impression she had a following. I don't think she would've reacted the way she did had other posters not kicked her when she was down. She had no choice but to go off on the original poster that attacked her. From what I understand, there were conversations afterward with Ian which led to the ban.

Kontra was banned, but Deus wasn't.
Awhile ago I asked why she was banned, and the response I got had something to do with her accusing a poster of something pretty vile. I understand why Ian wouldn't want to get into it.

Admittedly, that's purely hearsay, so I could be wrong. But from what I understand, her ban wasn't because of misusing her power.

I dont care.I cant stand it! I miss Patstrodamus.

You’re right. Somehow that accusation of harassment (or something like that) was made public.

That got it started, but it was what I discovered when I was looking into it that forced me to make that decision.

Kontradiction was the worst.
Nah, he was ok.

I’ll also add that I’m a member of other forums for different interests. Gen X here. I feel like these boards are getting smaller and smaller as other generations find a different way to connect. I don’t have stats to back that up, but I feel like there used to be a lot more traffic just here. I hate seeing anyone banned, maybe just suspensions? Anyhow, I think message boards are shrinking everywhere, it kinda sucks but I get it.

Lucky for you I have a good memory. I saw the conversation unfold in real time and what happened was Ashley made a positive comment saying she was so proud of the team after losing consecutive games. I had noticed this for going on a few weeks saying kind of bizarre comments after losses when they were among the worst in the league. That's when the poster responded saying how horrible of a moderator she was and took additional personal jabs at her which were completely unnecessary. The only part I'm fuzzy on is the backstory between them. If I'm not mistaken, she was locking that poster out of their own threads. The poster in question had a big following here. So my theory is that she would've ignored the initial post had it not been for other posters joining in - and there was a lot venting of what these other posters really thought of her. I felt bad as nobody likes to get ganged up on and told they aren't liked. She then had no choice and went off on the original poster accusing them of being a pedophile. That's when I knew it was over.

I appreciated her passion for the team and it reminded me of when I first started watching the Pats as a teenager in the 90's. I was a big time homer of the late 90's Pats and during the 1st dynasty. We had very little run ins, but she was mostly very respectful. It's too bad what happened.

I heard about her and BGC. That’s why she really shouldn’t have been a mod. If you can’t handle that stuff then you're not fit for the job. I was a mod (not here and not a Patriots forum) and I learned the same lesson. I can’t do it either.

But still she was the type of girl that would have been fun to meet irl at a game or watching one at a bar somewhere. I’m ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I apologize. I reread your post and misinterpreted some of what you said. I didn't realize you knew what happened.

I'm a full on homer. I realized awhile ago that there are enough ****ty things in life, so I shouldn't let sports negatively affect me. In fact, that was February 2008. I joined the forum in March 2008. I celebrate the good and ignore the bad. That's why I appreciated her... but at the same time, especially when you're in her position, you have to let people give negative opinions as well. I see a lot of people making conflicts way too personal.... over football.

It's a shame, because I thought/think both BGC and Ashley have a lot to offer this board.

I think anything that requires actual thought and a capacity to express one's thoughts, as opposed to that which reduces one to a drooling passive consumer of content, is on the decline.

You refer to a "different way to connect." I suppose if they are all staring at the same mesmerizing dreck, this must now qualify as "connecting"? No thanks.

Saying she had no choice but to call the poster a pedophile is probably the most insane thing I’ve ever read on this board.

I always found her to be a dummy and not fit for the role of moderator, but I never bothered saying anything because who cares, really?

Ya, i remember that episode and she went guns blazing at BGC, who’s draft posts were awesome for those of us looking for draft content after the season ended. The ban was completely justified.

Whatever happened to Patsboy? He was the pioneer of the Gronkaneers thread but he disappeared before Brady won the Super Bowl with them.
