Coaching hot seats

Not this year because of his pedigree. Hes won a lot
They need to get another QB ASAP though. And offensive system/coordinator. It's a mess out there and Ashton Jeanty is also getting criticized but he's in no position to succeed there.

I get what they were looking for signing Geno, didn't work. Move on.

Pete Carroll was brought to change the culture while they look for or prepare someone for the long term. Year 1 of this project is completely wasted.

It the Pats make it farther then the bills in the playoffs, I absolutely can see McDermott being shown the door. You can't watch your conference rival do a full rebuild and then pass you as your superbowl window closes, and then just carry on like nothing happened.

Yeah, the culture hasn't changed but they looked great in their first game. Seattle must have seen this in him when they let him go

anyone think Pete Carroll might be one and done in Las Vegas?
Yes - and although no real confirmation on contract details, despite his 3 year contract it seems like it's just an annual $15 million guarantee. Pete was supposed to be a quick turnaround guy especially at his age. I don't think they signed him thinking he'd need until age 80 to turn things around.

If it's going to be a rebuilding around a rookie QB they keep next year, better to have a younger HC that grows with the QB.

So I think that means they can cut Pete if they don't think he and Geno Smith are the answer and they don't have to pay him

Unlike McDaniels who I think is getting paid $10 million a season by the Raiders for the next few years.

I guess the question is who would replace him that's better - especially if there's a lot of competition for new coaches.

The fact that they should be able to grab one of the Top 3 QBs in the draft might make it a desirable place for someone.

As much as I like to check out the power rankings, playoff seedings and MVP odds, now's the time to speculate on which coaches are on the hot seat.

SB Nation has these guys on the hot seat:
Jonathan Gannon - Arizona
Mike McDaniel - Dolphins
Sean McDermott - Bills
Raheem Morris - Atlanta
Zac Taylor - Bengals
Kevin Stefanski - Browns

What do you think? Who is going and who gets to stay?

McDaniel SHOULD be fired, but since they are stuck with Tua as their QB for at least next season given his salary, maybe they'll just keep McDaniel too and hope that he can eek something more out of him

At the very least they helps them tank for another season to get another top QB pick

It’ll probably be left up to the GM they hire. McDaniel has them playing a little better lately. That may not count for much by the end of the season, but I don’t think it’s a slam dunk he gets fired.

Stefanski is another guy that should be fired but it’s the Browns. They always make the wrong decision.

If I were Ross, I'd find a way to reverse engineer McDaniel as the OC. Hire a GM. Hire a DC who is the HC of the Defense. Hire a coach whose sole job is discipline to take that role from McDaniel.

Yeah, I don’t know how realistic it is to hire a guy whose job is discipline. But I understand your point. Clearly, the owner thought the roster was the bigger issue.

No, I agree. It'd be a stupid way to structure things. But if you want to keep McDaniel for his scheming and playcalling, you have to find someone else to do what he can't. It'd be the equivalent of having the vice principal in a school handle discipline instead of a principal.

Not a fan of "soul-less billionaires", but Jim Irsay, Amy Adams, Mark Davis and Mike Brown have hardly been successful stewards of their franchises.

That doesn't always work out too well, either.

McDermott is an interesting one to watch. If another Atlanta or Carolina costs them the Division, and the get knocked out of the playoffs early, it might be time.

Mike MacDaniel is a great coach, just as long as the fish are playing bad teams. I seriously doubt there is more than one player on that team that believes in him. I hope they make him coach for life.

McDaniel clearly has emotional intelligence issues and I think some players can relate to that. He gets player support from his weakness. JMO.

Even though they got a good record, the Eagles seem to be imploding.

Contract wise the QB would be tough to get rid of.

Will they dump coach instead if they don't get far in the playoffs ?
Aren’t they 8-2 and coming off a Super Bowl win? How are they imploding

They are not imploding at all. They are having to learn how to win with a different team and in a different way than last year. Its silly to think they are imploding. They are adapting and growing. I don't think the '25 team is as good as the '24, but they still can win it all.

I thought McDermott was pretty safe, but if they lose the East to the Patriots and flame out in the playoffs he could be done.

Soon as I say it, the Bills are 3 games out.

I think the embarrassment of a division rival who was hibernating for 5 years gets to the AFCCG or even the Super Bowl will force the Bills' hand. If McDermott is safe, he should get rid of Beane at GM who has been horrible and put him in this mess.

The question is, who are their alternatives? That's the problem with this current era. Awful HC's have 9 lives because there's nobody else.

They're not even doing much worse on offense (about 4 PPG), and most Iggles fans want to yeet their OC into the Sun.
