OT: Players you forget were Patriots

Zach Sudfeld

Big tall skinny Tight End! He was like Bailey Zappe….people were desperate for him to be good and kept hyping him. In the end he just wasn’t very good! Had a season at the Jets and then his knee folded and that was his career done

Who can forget Zach Studfeld? (I was a fan -- and also of his brother, Nate, a quarterback whom I always believed, on the slender evidence of a couple of pre-season games, had a future as a starting NFL quarterback.)

It's astonishing how little success Bill Belichick's assistant coaches have had as head coaches. On the other hand, there is the coaching tree from being a Patriots quarterback. Kliff Kingsbury and Kevin O'Connell are well-known, but here is one I had to go back and check.

Zac Robinson (Offensive Coordinator for the Falcons) was indeed a Patriot, drafted in the seventh round in 2010. I was excited, as I usually am, but he was cut at the end of training camp.

Does Ross Ventrone count as a Patriot if he was cut that many times?

Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell

Brian Flores deserves another opportunity, and I’d put Vrabel in the coaching tree even if he never coached here. He learned more as a Patriot player than he could ever hope to as an assistant coach.

Agreed.

Not to mention Josh's success just as an OC is starting to be a bit of its own legend now.

Throw in some future success by a kid and things will look better in this department than people suggest.

Mac Jones

Ok, maybe I haven't forgotten, but I'm trying.
