We're 8-2 so what I'm about to say on Maye should be considered in the context of whether or not I think he can lead us to a SB win this year...

The last two weeks he's looked more like what I expected this year. He's really, really good. He makes some amazing plays no one else can. Still some rough edges to smooth out though with the over-aggression when the situation doesn't call for it and refusing to give up on plays that are lost causes.

Most young QBs aren't ready to be the main reason a team gets to the playoffs and has success in there. That's a rare thing. And it's usually because of those things. It's not that they can't make the great plays, it's that they can't avoid the bad enough. A missed great play and you live for the next down most of the time (very few plays are actually do or die). But a bad turnover or a drive killing bad decision to move you too far off down and distance schedule to recover... those are the things that lose games. QBs can lose the game for their team a lot easier than they can win it because downside of bad plays at that position outweighs the upside of great plays. That's the development most of them have to make over a few years before they're good enough to really be the focal point of the team success.

For most of the year it was like Maye had skipped past that stage. Outside of him, I would say the roster is still mostly pretty average but his elite play was propping it all up. The last two weeks he's looked more "normal" for a QB with his experience. And that's ok. But I do question what the ceiling is of this team if that's what he is vs. the solidified, already elite of the elite QB he looked like before these last two games. I think this is still a roster where the QB needs to be THAT DUDE for them to make real noise.

Again, keep in mind the context before people jump at me. This is still amazing progress/development for Maye and the team overall. I'm speaking about why I'm questioning how much playoff success they can have, which the fact I'm even discussing that is a huge positive, not a negative mark on the team.

Well, he seems sure to reach 30TD's if he stays healthy. That would be impressive.
What he needs to do is slow down the INT's though. At this rate, it'll be great if he can stay at 10 or lower.
But if he continues at 2TD / 1 INT per game avg. He finishes with 33 / 12 - that's still a very good 2nd year.
Not to mention around 4300yds.
Most of our predictions were not that good.

Projected out over 17 games:

71.7% completions, 4344 pass yards, 32 TD’s, 8 INT’s, 114 QB Rating, 481 rushing yards with 3 TD’s.

Are those MVP numbers? I think so…

He is amazing. His arm is stupid strong. They get into third and 10 and it’s a chip shot for him.

The future is bright, the future is now if they stay healthy because Vrabel and Cowden crushed this offseason.

I watched the highlights this morning and it seemed like Henry was trailing a bit and was open but Drake didn't see it

Still a very dumb INT but especially at that point in the game. But he's 23 and will have mistakes like that and he'll learn

Here’s what I’m seeing. Last two games Drake didn’t have that same crazy overachieving QB stat line.

Against the Falcons he seemed a bit off, not terribly but not totally dialed in. And the rest of the team stepped up enough to win, with a touch of luck on a missed PAT. But even if Atlanta had made that kick it would just have tied the game and it’s very possible the Pats would've won anyway. So don’t discount that win just because Atlanta missed their chance to tie it up.

Against TB the rest of the team really played at a high level. Apart from their habitual sluggish start on defense I’m not sure there was much to fault. It felt like the Bucs were still in it until the end because they’re a good team not because the Pats seemed shaky at all.

So in those two games the players around Drake were good enough to win even though he wasn’t carrying them.

That is a good thing to see.

Seriously, though, it's impressive that seemingly no one in the league has anything negative to say about him.

GMFB had a big segment on the Pats, and Kyle ? was on board with the Pats 3rd best team in the NFL and Maye as his MVP. I'm happy to see all this attention, but we might want to tap the brakes just a little bit.

Next time the Pats lose a game or Maye struggles... it's back to they suck, they should have drafted MHJ, etc.

Last 2 games he tended to overthrow a few passes at the beginning, earlier he had better touch dropping the ball into the receivers' hands. He seems to adjust well though even after a rough start. If he's on from the start no one will beat us.

Honestly, we're past the point where I have much "bad" to say about this team as a whole or really any position group. Our LB/S coverage and the depth of our edge rushers are probably the only things I'll take a stand on this team as anything close to "bad". They're pretty baseline competent across the board.

At this point, I think the weakness of this team is only that they don't have enough strengths. We're not my pick to win the Super Bowl right now which means by definition I think that inevitably something is going to be our undoing and that's what it is. I think we either need to add a few more top end talent pieces to make another position group or two identifiable STRENGTH(S) that we can really hang our hats on or we need to turn a few spots where we're only average/competent and get to "good" so that the overall units are better. Ideally you do both, but I think one or the other makes us really formidable.

If they have another good offseason or two, we're really cooking. If it's through the draft rather than FA emphasis, we're long-term cooking.

I have something. There is a video out there of his girlfriend (now wife, this looks like when they were still college) filming him sitting at a table. The video doesnt include what was said but she was laughing and he gave her the finger! (with a sheepish grin). I laughed at it and was kind of shocked just because of his demeanor. Didnt think he had that in him
