Vrabel: Embrace the Joy

Yep, a brief reminder that Atlanta came into the game with the league’s top-ranked pass defense, and gave up 100 yards over their average to that Patriots performance we’re all so down on.

100% this.

I get that Maye didn't have another all-world performance, but this was against the top pass defense in the NFL, and his down moments were self-inflicted. I hope everyone we play gives up 100 more yards than their average against Maye.

By all means, I hope teams dissect this game and implement this game plan.

My

Well Maye didn't get any help with our Guards being raped: and Boutte getting hurt no pun.
My #1 goal on that side of the ball. Draft a RT and sign a youngish vet at G. Drake has already shown that he doesn’t need great wr’s to play well.

I would always be looking to upgrade WR&RB. But, fixing OL should come first. Gotta keep Maye healthy.

100

We need to learn from the failures of the Burrow bengals

FIFY.

I would actually draft a RG too in round 2 or 3 (or even rd 1 if that was the guy & we pick in high 20s anyway).
The old BB strategy of throw multiple methods at the wall (FA, draft, developmental) and see what sticks; is one I think is still applicable, .... a best business practice.
But your main point: 'Protect the "franchise" ' is still 100% valid and a bullseye target.

False, as someone posted the video earlier that literally opens with Bill saying:

"There's nothing wrong, in fact, you SHOULD be excited to make a play. Hell, look at all the work you put into it. All the time you spent, in practice..... You SHOULD be excited about it. Your teammates should be excited."

*Points out how nobody celebrated with Ty after a solid play*

"We aren't good enough to play that way. I don't think anyone is."
I think this is a very interesting point. You are correct, Bill did say that, I was thinking about it the other day when Vrabel said it. I do believe that Bill lost that part of his game as his circle contracted and he became more Nixonian. I think he essentially became more crabby, more focused on the negative reinforcement than he was when he made that statement. The fact that he HAD to make that statement should have been a red flag to himself IMO that he was holding on to tight and too regimented in his approach. Too much Do Your Job and not enough Joy.

Michael Holley wrote about a sequence in Patriot Reign (I think), I think it was during the 2001 season. They were practicing defending and keying on a certain player in the playoffs, I think it was Marshal Faulk. Bill kept saying "Where is he? Where's _______?" and it grated on the players because it was relentless, rep after rep. Finally, I think it was Roman Pfifer turned to Bill during a rep and said STFU! Bill chuckled because he knew that meant they had it, they knew the job. This never would have happened in the second half of the run, Bill had become almost mythic IMO and the players never would have spoken up like that. No one dared challenge him.

People change, sometimes for the good, sometimes not. It's certainly interesting and fun to watch all this unfold now and see Vrabel build it, and it'll be interesting to see what it's like in 10, 15, 20 years if he lasts that long.

Good point Vin. Nice work.

Vrabel stressed this in both his presser and in the post-game locker room:

Winning in the NFL is hard. You work hard, you try to correct mistakes, win or lose. You should take accountability for errors.

But joy is important, too, it's why most players and coaches got into the fame to begin with. Building a culture of shared joy is a really key concept, and one which will help to sustain success in a league where the media and fans focus on the negative much of the time.
Important thing of note Vrabel said was you want to learn in winning, than having to learn from losing. I feel the team has been filled with joy from winning this season.especially the guys who've been here the past few years dealing with losing. Now a winning culture has been re-created.. guys are expecting to win now you can see it in the players and see it by the messaging Vrabel sends.

Embrace the Moss he brings the joy

With a knock on wood knowing that a great season is often one injury away from going awry, even before the Jets and Dolphins dumped their best players, the Pats are deemed to be the biggest sure bet to make the playoffs.

They've got a 96% chance of making the playoffs - and a 4% chance of not making the playoffs given their remaining schedule.

And although not currently in the pole position, given the remaining schedule, they're deemed to be most likely to get the 1st round bye

It's been awhile!

Right on the money.

Got it. So qualities that you like might have existed but only during the winning years. Somewhere he obviously must have lost his joy for the game.

Bucs, Bills and Ravens are really the only questionable games left. Barring some rather big upsets, this team will easily make the playoffs at this point (granted teams have also flatlined late as well, so nothing is guaranteed)

Why can’t it be what I said?

Why can’t it be what I said?
You can say whatever you want but I'm not going to let you just stuff your hate into a conviently selective timeframe like that. The guy is coaching a mid level college program yet you think he has no joy left for the game. You're a clown show.

Hey you can say whatever you want but you're setting a double standard that absolutely exposes your hate and bias.

That's your quote stating "that statement should have been a red flag." Well then certainly you think Vrabel making the same statement is a red flag?

Isn't that just before the boat sinks?
It doesn’t matter : before the boat sinks, he gets to see a very nice rack. In the end, he won !

What ya'll just watched yesterday was the first DC to figure out Drake Maye.

While not every NE opponent has Atlanta's defensive personnel, they will be picking this game film apart and trying to copy it. This moment was always coming and now we see if Maye can rise above it.
That was a good preview for experience prep Him for Todd Bowles
