I've read through this and I am a bit surprised that I appear to be the only one absolutely pissed at the coaching staff for trying to go for a field goal when up 21-7 with 30 seconds left, the other team out of timeouts, the ball on the wrong side of the 50 and YOU GET THE BALL TO START THE 2ND HALF.

WTF were they thinking there? Maye's fumble never should have happened because he should've been taking a knee. So dumb.
Disagree. You play to win, not out of fear. They had timeouts left.

Eagles and Seahawks
Bills and Broncos
We beat the Bills in their house.
The Broncos have not been more impressive

In any event if you can only name 4 teams in the league, then you have proven we are a serious contender.

Because of the schedule and eye test
The fact is, if this was another team with this schedule we might be using the words 'frauds' or 'pretender' to describe them. Or at least the conversation of if they were a fraud would be on the table. But this fan base like any other wants to believe the best of their team, and the worst of others. It is a very human thing.

Now I personally would not describe them as a fraud or pretender this year myself. I don't think those labels are fair considering the state of the NFL right now. It kind of feels like a league full of frauds and pretenders now. Do you really believe in Denver or the Indy? I don't. I bet other Pats fans don't consider them great teams. KC and the Bills have been super inconsistent. The Ravens are way out of it and would need an amazing run to make the playoffs. If the Pats are pretenders who are the contenders in the AFC? So i don't feel that label is fair.

That all being said... the talent and depth on the Pats compared to other teams in the AFC is lacking a bit... Maye before today was playing at an insanely high level. He has a few stumbles today and they are neck and neck with Atlanta. A lot of the Patriots power in the power rankings really depends on if Maye gives an MVP like performance. IF he does and everyone else is healthy they are with the the of the pack. IF he only plays well, their flaws are much more obvious

Where is our James Cook or Jonathan Taylor or McCaffrey to carry the load if our QB has a hiccup? We don't have one. Where is our Super Star WR to make something out of nothing or get open enough so Maye doesn't need to drop it in a bucket? We don't have one. Where is that defensive game wrecker? We don't have one. We have nothing to really fall back on if Maye stumbles.... Maye Stumbled today in the 2nd half and late in the 2nd qt without Boutte... and all the team could do was hold on for dear life with the help of a missed XP.

That isn't ideal.

Pats are going to make a big trade soon. If not, they will be active again this off-season. They can't hoard the cap.

Nail-biting, character win. The defense did what they had to do, and Maye's off game was still another 200+ yard game (against a top notch pass D) with a 100+ passer rating.

Maye is a second year player and got some jitters after that first fumble. It happens. And hell, he was running for his life half the time today. But he still made the throw that counted and the coaching staff trusted him to do it. Gotta love that.

As for Kyle Williams, I have some definite concerns. I don't feel as high on him as I did Boutte when he was struggling his rookie year. But, let's see what happens.

Not the kind of message you want sent to the offense taking a knee at our 30 with over a minute before half.

Don't remember it bothering me at the time.

Well it seems the Patriots have no shot this year. Maybe someone should tell the players they are just practicing for next year

**** the Bucs, I do not think they are as scary as the hype around them suggests.
Depends who plays, but I might be inclined to agree.

1PM start in the heat after 6 weeks away from it is always going to be a tough spot though.

Plus the Bucs are coming off a bye. That is always an advantage.

Gonna be interesting any trade deadline moves, or what the plan is next week to try and integrate Williams and Chism into the game plan.

I am thinking the Pats were not expecting to lose Boutte.

The rule is 100% about VOCALLY simulating the snap.
From ChatGPT:

Defensive players cannot:
Mimic the quarterback’s cadence or snap calls
e.g., yelling “HUT!” or “SET!”
Clap loudly to imitate a shotgun clap cadence (if clearly meant to disrupt snap timing)
Make sudden verbal calls designed to confuse the offense’s snap count or audible system
Use hand signals that imitate the center's snap motions
The key element: if it’s intended to deceive or confuse the offense pre-snap rather than communicate defensively, it's illegal.

So the Pats are a 0.5 pt favorite on a neutral field?

Once kickoff happens it's never a good day to be in the GDT

If you just kinda lean into and accept it for what it is, it's actually kinda nice. Every single person says something extremely stupid and then everyone kinda just understands and moves on lol.

There might be a spat, but it's kinda like when there's a bunch of dogs in a room and one bumps into another and they snap at each other, trade barbs and barks for a second, and then completely forget that they were even having an interaction 1 second later.

Well one poster wants us to skip the next game and start game planning for the jets

This is exactly why you try for a field goal before the half. Had many times did the Pats do this over the years and put teams in the hole by the 3rd quarter? They had 32 seconds left with a 1st and 10 at the 50. You'd rather have them kneel there? That's not a message you want to send to the team after they just got a turnover with 1:06 left in the half at the 34 yard line.
