Any credible coach that could turn the Fins around will want GM control - Ross knows this. He may even have someone in mind.

But this telegraphs to any such potential coaches that they will be the de facto GM
Is there anyone out there with a proven track record doing both?

I think the real thing to note here is that in the interim, whoever is manning things likely won't give a crap about "inter-division" trades. So guys like Jaelen Phillips could actually be realistic trade candidates for NE next week.

If the owner doesn't care about trading in the division.

the decisions being made are based on Tua's deal.
Tua is going to be there at least thru the end of next year.
a new HC decision will be predicated on having to win with Tua over the next 1.5-2.5 seasons.
McDaniel has won with Tua in the past.
I assume the team hires a GM and then lets the GM make the decision.

Generally I expect owners don't necessarily care - they only care about the end result. So if you trade a guy in-division and then the other team is beating you with with that guy twice a year, you're gonna hear about it. So, GMs may be hesitant to even entertain that scenario from playing out in the first place. Of course, this is just a generalization.

we have to assume there is/was a philosophical difference. stay the path and get healthy and back on track to build up some positive vibes for next season. or trade assets for draft picks, rebuild with Tua and McDaniels.
I assume the Phins are extremely active at the deadline

Is Chris Grier really the one to blame? They have talent. He did pull off a brilliant trade with the 49ers that did get them Hill, Waddle, and Chubb in return for the third overall pick. I don't think he is the greatest GM, but I would put him behind Tua and McDaniel in the blame pie.

Disagree. Grier made costly moves for players to put them " over the top@ when they weren't close to being a true contender, now they are paying the price for those moves. A GM has to understand where their team is in the building process. Vrabel understands this and said they didn't get involved in the Parsons discussions because they aren't at that stage yet. Grier spent all that money and all those picks and never even won a playoff game with the team he built, he's not a good GM. And he hired MacDaniel, who is a terrible head coach.

They'll be paying Tua that long - but they won't pass up and opportunity to draft and play a rookie QB as there's 4 guys who will go in the Top 10.

There's no telling what an elderly owner and his hand picked GM might do for a coach in the offseason - Chris Shula from the Rams to evoke the last time the Dolphins were good?

I think you are wrong about the QB's in the next draft. If Mendoza comes out he will be the first off the board, but after that there isn't anyone other than Moore who will be a potential top 10 pick. Manning won't be coming out, Sellers and Beck are both having rough seasons, and Nussmier, Allar, and Mateer are all day 2 picks if they come out. Moore could end up beating out Mendoza, but there is some doubt that he will declare.

You'd think with the years the others are having Moore might be tempted if the others continue falling off. I know some 'experts' are saying he'll want to showcase more starts but it'll bear watching, timing is everything

I agree. I think that some of these guys are going to wait and see who declares before making their final decision. Others, like Manning, are going back and won't need to dwell on it.

The preseason talk would have had us believe this QB class might give '83 a run for it's money, certainly not looking that way now

Yep. Initially it did look like 4 QB's could go in the top 10, then the season started.

You're thinking of the 2021 class.

Whoever keeps telling Tua to keep playing should be in jail.

Just remember they fired Flores because he didn't believe in Tua and wanted to replace him. They loaded the team up around Tua and never won a playoff game or came in first in the division. Now the window has closed and Tua can't do it without the whole team being cheat codes and he's probably damaged goods at this point.

They wasted 4 years on a mediocre QB.

Only sucky thing is they won't trade in the division during their upcoming firesale.

Flo was right the whole time.

Tua has played in decent sized stretches like a candidate for mvp.
certainly not this iteration of Tua, but not too long ago, he was playing at a high level.
