I like short 1-2 page threads on a focused single topic rather than digging in 10-30 page threads. So, yes, I do start well, well more than my share of threads.
Why then is this comment not starting its own separate thread?

I like long threads about all the high-priced WRs we'll never sign/trade for.
Isn’t that like almost every thread?

With posts about needing to sign/trade for OT, LB, S, RB, CB, DL, and Edge interspersed.

Welcome to the Patriots non rec John Saunders. I'm sure you shall be forgiven in time.

The value of raw speed is that it gives you the ability to make up for an error, or slow read. Think of it this way. Who is going to get there first a 4.4 S or a 4.6 S who can diagnose the play or route just three tenths of a second faster than the 4.4 guy. While having raw speed is an asset, it's not a requirement for good play. The slower player just has a smaller margin of error.

Also his size strength, and short area quickness can prove to be assets that a faster guy doesn't have. All these stats combine to make up a player's productiveness. So the point is, while A factor, raw straight-line speed is only one of many factors that make up how well a guy plays.

Let's give this guy a chance. He's a rookie for god's sake, so he's already is going to have issues just based on that. Let's see if this coaching group can develop him into a contributor

Kraft yard sale huntin’ lol

I thought this was an interesting insight into how these deals unfold from the player’s perspective. I’ll bet that once they’re off the plane things don’t slow down, between contract paperwork, employee onboarding, player onboarding, getting housing accommodations, meeting coaches, getting oriented, and all of that on top of their normal routine working out and practicing. Must be like drinking from a firehose. Plus learning the playbook. I don’t expect we will see him active for the game today.

8. Sudden change: Rookie safety John Saunders Jr., who the Patriots officially signed to their 53-man roster off the Dolphins' practice squad Thursday, found out about New England's interest late on Tuesday and was at the airport 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday to begin the process.

Meanwhile, veteran running back D'Ernest Johnson was eating lunch on Tuesday after being released from the Cardinals' practice squad when his agent called and told him the Patriots wanted him to visit. So Johnson quickly packed a bag, hopped on an 8 p.m. flight out of Phoenix, arrived in Boston at 2 a.m. and was at Gillette Stadium at 7 a.m. for a tryout that led to him signing with the practice squad.

Both are examples of how players' situations can change quickly.

"I never experienced anything like this before," said Saunders, who began his college career at Miami (Ohio) before finishing at Ole Miss. "I entered the [transfer] portal [in college] a few years ago but still, you have days and months before you have to leave. This was like, I talked to [executive VP of player personnel] Eliot Wolf, packed my bags, and then 4:30 in the morning I was [on the way] to Boston. I can't even explain it. This is different."

Patriots QB Drake Maye is the best in the NFL at one key stat

That draft report paints a very positive picture of Saunders. BTW- I would have loved that he ran a 4.3 40, but I will remind people that Rodney ran a 4.8. A deep safety's range has a lot more to do with his anticipation and ability to read the play and the QB's eyes, than just raw speed. So, I'll wait to see how he looks on the field before I rely on a timed sprint on paper.

Like his size, and given that draft report, which was pretty positive, I'm surprise he wasn't drafted. At any rate, we need a S, we got a S. He cost nothing, now let's see how he looks on the field.

I agree. For off the ball players, linebackers and safeties, reacting and reading where the ball or play is going is more important than pure 40 time. No one epitomized this more than Tedy Bruschi. His 40 time was good for a defensive lineman, but slow for a linebacker. However I'm his read and react speed was exceptional, and his first step was never wrong, it was always to where the ball or play was going. And if your first step is wrong playing off the ball you are toast.

Who will the 3rd safety be today??

From what I've read we ate almost the entire thing.

The Steelers re-did the contract to a 1yr deal with 9.75 guaranteed with 2 voidable years.

The Pats only ate their part of this year's deal. $9.76M Which he'd already been paid.
