Drake Maye has arrived . . .

My question is, who fixed Drake Maye? He was spraying balls all over the field, bad footwork and sometimes not to accurate. Now he's fixed. That simple, year 2 jump?
How about Maye fixed Maye. He has a QB trainer he worked with in the off season and he learned from year one some of the differences between college and the NFL. Sure I think Josh and the staff have a hand in his improvements but he did the lions share of stepping up his game.

Myles Garrett on Drake Maye:

“I think he is a great human being,” Garrett said on Sunday, via Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed. “I think he is a good quarterback who is soon to be a great quarterback. I like how he’s grown. It’s nice to be a part of his journey. Hate to be on this end of it, but it’s nice to see how he’s leading his team. He’s helped them rebuild into what they are now. In a way, I’m proud of him, and I’m happy to see his success."

He always was. He was 1st in media hype, though.
Being drafted after lesser players is very common at all positions but's especially glaring at QB. Only a handful of HOF QBs were the top QB drafted, and the best of them all was the 7th QB taken in his draft.

If the Pats had the top pick would they have taken someone other than Maye? We don't know for sure but we do know that he was the 3rd taken and looks like the best right now. Hopefully that won't change.

All I could think about yesterday with Maye having another stellar game and Caleb Williams continuing to regress after a good start to the season is how the Bears' front office laughed at the prospect of drafting Drake Maye and even showed all his lowlights to mock him when reviewing prospects.

I hope the Bears enjoy Williams and I wish them the best when they are trying to draft a new franchise QB in two years.

Other QB's have stud Receivers/TE's, and RB's at their disposal. The front office needs to find these types of guys for Maye.

This is assuming Maye will be a top 10 QB or so moving forward.
Disagree with this entirely. My favorite Brady years, and the ones I think were most successful, were the one Brady was elevating guys no one else wanted. Years you hear "and now Brady just hit his 10th different receiver" because it means your QB is reading the entire field and taking what is being given. The major perk of having a top 10 QB is you DON'T have to spend your money on weapons you can put it into the rest of the team and be balanced to beat every kind of team you face. I'd hate to be the Bengals because having to win every game 35-31, eventually in the playoffs you run into a team that holds you in the 20's and you are going home. IMO to be a champion you have to have the kind of team that can win a shootout AND a rock fight. That means having an Elite Defense with good depth, which costs money, and counting on your Top QB to make average weapons better then they are. Don't get me wrong 2007 with Moss was fun but early Brady who didn't have to throw 10 times a game to Moss were harder to shut down in gotta have it moments.

Yep, gotta give maye credit. I remember thinking Van Pelt and his staff deserved a ton of credit for his development last year and maybe they do but maybe this kid is just that damn bright

Alright mayo; we stopped reading @ Trevor Lawrence.

I promise Patsfan2, I'm not going to bust your balls forever about not wanting them to take Drake Maye. I will only do it as long as Drake Maye is their quarterback. That should be about 15-20 years, you can deal with that.

Just so you know, there will not be any #1 WR's in next years free agency, or the draft. Free agency blows, and while the draft is really strong with good WR's, there is no JaMarr Chase, Malik Nabers etc .... who will be there. There could be some Emika Egbuka's available, and he's a really good player.

Mayebe. Hindsight will let us know for sure. Hard to compete with Moss and Harrison amd Kelce and others today though.
What's that quote, the sum is better than the parts or something like that. There are no Jefferson's or Chase but we have a good group of receivers, and I think it's time to stop looking for the shiny object and accept what's working. We don't need a diva pouting to get more opportunities. It's all about the W. If you want to improve the team, find some Oline or defensive help.

I don't like Warner's criticism of Maye leaving big plays out there. Maye has to play with an accelerated clock in his head. He has shown the ability to make deep plays with ease but overly trusting this line will lead to strip sacks etc.

There is always room for improvement but Maye is playing at an elite level and most qbs would fail if they had to step into his shoes right now. A shaky line and little support from the running game.
TBF, Warner's overall opinion is "As insanely good as he's been, he still has significant room for improvement."

Tom Brady is an exception to the rule. That's not the norm. Josh Allen is a great QB. He is struggling with meh receivers. They are wasting him away. Mahomes (statistically) didn't do as well without a legit #1. He's obviously great.

But I forgot to mention the OL. If they are going to win a SB within the next five years, the OL needs to be much better. Brady always had great OL's for the most part.

That's my point, I don't give a crap about statistics I care about winning. Throwing it all over the yard and putting up huge numbers in the reg season is fun. Having your weapons talked about and gushed over in the media is exciting but we've seen that kind of team lose in the post season again and again.

Now you want to talk about using that extra money on the offensive line I'm with you. That does add to winning because your not asking them to chuck it all over the field due to having a good run game. It keeps your franchise upright and healthy. Football has changed and old school doesn't work exactly the way it used to but some things will never change "football is won in the trenches" is #1 on that list. Just saying give me the choice of a 30 mil WR or a 20 mil tackle and 10 mil guard I'm taking the oline 11/10 times.

Nope. What they need to do is continue building a great OL, and defense. You can't play better than Maye is playing right now, but he needs better protection, and a lockdown defense. The good numbers the defense is putting up right now won't hold up in the playoffs.
That’s purely your assumption.
Your assumption could be wrong.
There is only one way to verify it.
Let’s run that experiment!

Really good find. Thanks for sharing it. I backtracked to the original source, very good analysis. Interesting to see it was published September 5. Certainly has stood the test of time very well.

That's the hope Huck.

He deserves all the grudge posting.
His highness. Most holy. The Holy father of the Cult of Vertical Routeness. His eminence. Supreme Pontiff.

Doesn’t matter if you like it or disagree with it, you can look at the film and see it for yourself.

It’s coming from an elite QB who has walked in similar shoes. And we hear the same from others, such as JT O’Sullivan.

It’s true Drake Maye is playing at an elite level. It’s also true he’s leaving a lot of meat on the bones, especially when he starts playing “one and run”.

The craziest thing of all, is that this is just the tip of the iceberg for Maye. Imagine if they can get him more explosive weapons and more quality Olinemen to protect him. By the time he’s 26, he could possibly be mentioned with the greats. I don’t think any Pats fan, would argue against the fact that he’s the 2nd best Pat’s QB ever. Maybe 4th behind Mac Jones & Bailey Zappe ;-)
