Player Signing Patriots claim EDGE Caleb Murphy on waivers

I suspect that Jennings will be gone within the next couple of weeks.
I heard a trade that makes some sense - Jennings to Baltimore (who need run defense edge help) in exchange for RB help. If it's Derrick Henry then NE probably includes a pick. If it's Justice Hill or Keaton Mitchell then Baltimore probably includes a pick.

I do like Keaton Mitchell, he has a little something something.

He's got a little spice. Worth a try as a rotational dude, which to some extent is what they need, but I'd prefer a guy with power. Better than Jennings though.

?? Question about Practice Squad...can a player say he wants to stay on his current Team's PS if some Team come asking?? Or can a Team just signed Player X to their Active Roster??

If I understand correctly the player is offered a contract that signs him to the new team’s roster, but it does not have to be accepted. However he’d be giving up a significant raise to turn it down, and he has to on their roster (or at least paid like he is) for a minimum of three weeks. So it would be really unusual for it to be turned down. Not sure but it seems to me he or his agent could also go to his current team and give them the opportunity to match it, although that might get sticky if things went sideways.

Correct. Nobody can be "claimed" involuntarily off a practice squad.

Has happened in past. I forget the player on Pats PS. But they revised all the rules w the expansion of PS so ….past history is no prediction of future GotoHell ignorant rule making

I think in the case of the Pats player who turned it down Bill gave him a pay raise to match the nfl minimum he would have got from other team.
CANT DO THAT ANYMORE.
PS salaries are locked.

I think BB must hold the record for most nfl rule changes (generated out of envy or trying to cripple him-TB) made as a result of his innovations or ‚sneakiness‘. LOL

That’s also how I remember it.

I think now the team’s only option would be to match the offered contract and elevate the player to the 53 man roster.

Or tell him wait 1 week; next IRd position is yours & then go look for someone perennially on inactive list w the sniffles

Chargers fan reviewing him after a preseason game . Sounds like he could be good edge depth but they were pretty rich there. Also Solid Contributions on st

That’s very interesting. Sounds like he’s got potential to develop. Let’s see what Vrabes can get out of him.

He was inactive for Atlanta.
any chance he sees the field next week?
anybody hear-see commentary on X, BSky, Insta etc about his practices / fitting into roster-depth chart?

From the sounds of it per chargers fans he has trouble setting the edge. Thats a little concerning but if he can even be a 3rd down specialist that’s still a huge help

We don't want to insult the water boy.. white have not even sniffed a QB this season..

I’m interested to see how soon he and Saunders make the game day active list. That’s the next step in their Patriots journey. How soon they take it will give some idea of their developmental progress.

They have gotten a lot of favorable publicity without a lot of history to support. I hope they are great, but don't have any reason to expect it.

UDFA who made the Titans roster in Vrabels last year there. Just cut by chargers.
Caleb Murphy was a preseason star a couple of years ago. He's never really gotten a healthy amount of NFL game time. But considering he's a free acquisition, why not go shopping in the bargain bin known as waivers?
