The record is better than I had expected - I had thought maybe 8 wins for the season, and it looks like they'll certainly surpass that - but I am going to stick with regarding this season as successful to the extent the team shows progress in what I am going to regard as (yet another) first year in a rebuild. I said at the start that I really don't much care what the record is nor do I care whether they get into the playoffs (in which, though they are better than I expected, they have no realistic chance of advancing very far). I'm sticking to that. It's been a fun way to experience the season: all my surprises have been happy ones.
In that light, I look forward to this game because it's a chance for Drake and the offense overall to show what they can do against a really solid, kinda threatening defense. If they can acquit themselves well, I'll be happy. If they do acquit themselves well but lose, I'll be OK with that. If I had to predict, I would predict that they will do well and very well might win. But here too, my standard for success is not limited to counting victories.
The only thing I worry about, frankly, is Drake's recklessness, though I do think he understands that he needs to get a little more patient at times waiting for a play to develop - he really did ignore open guys in some of his runs last week - and get in the habit of sliding when he runs, fercrissake. With the sort of pressure he'll likely face this week, he might be forced to pull it down and run, whatever his intentions, but he could still practice taking what's there on a. run, then getting down. He seems like a guy who learns fast and does not generally repeat mistakes, so I think he'll figure it all out. I just hope he doesn't get clobbered in the process.
I'm also skeptical that they will continue to be as lucky as they have been with injuries, which will expose their lack of depth, but there not much they can do about that at this point.
