Thing is, 3rd string on the LOLphins would still be 1st string on the Jets.

When I was in college, SportsCenter (back when it was actually a generational touch point, not the clown show it is now) used to joke about the Jets a ton. Keith Olberman joking about the guy in the paper bag with a Just End The Season sign. I joked about Neil O’Donnell’s 4th quarter in SB 30 being his Jets audition during the game, not knowing he’d actually go there. I’m nearly 50 now, and everything else has changed in my life and the world, but it’s been a constant Just End The Season for these guys!

The AFL had 10 teams before merging with the NFL, not eight. And of the 19 (out of 59) Super Bowls won by former AFL franchises, 18 involved only five teams -- Patriots, Cheeves, Raiders, Broncos and Dolphins.

You might recall the first post-merger AFC-NFC Super Bowl was played by original NFL teams, Baltimore-Dallas. The AFL had three, maybe four teams capable of NFL-level play before the leagues merged. Post-merger with a shared draft, trades, etc. things evened out.

The NFL agreed to play those games when they had loaded Packer teams and took the first two. But then the AFL teams won the next two and took the wind out of the blowhards in the NFL who looked down their noses at the AFL, like you're doing now.

Your own words were the "original" AFL teams and there were 8 of those for quite a few years, until Houston came in the late 60's and Cincy a year later. That's why I used 8 but we can go with 10. Below are the records for 7 of the 10 original teams and other than NJ, Hou and the Chargers they've all kicked NFC ass.

You also mentioned how much stronger the NFL has been and how things evened out once they started drafting together. That's also way off the mark.

Since 1970, when both leagues started to play each other head to head, there have been 55 seasons. The AFC has won the head-to-head matchups for 32 of those seasons, including 9 straight years starting in 1972 and 11 straight starting in 1996. The AFC's overall record in that time is 1606-1521, though this year it looks like the NFC will make up some ground.

The only place the NFC has an edge is in the SB and that edge is razor thin and wouldn't even exist if Brady stayed in the AFC or Bill didn't bench Butler.
