BTW, the Patriots run a lot of 12 man personnel which has two TEs and only two WRs. According to AI, the Pats are in 12 man personnel 38% of the time and 11 man personnel (3 WRs) 48% of the time. So less than half the snaps on offense have three WRs. The #3 WR on the Patriots really isn't a starter.
You’ve left 14% of the plays unaccounted for, so you’ve provided insufficient data to support your statement that 3 WRs are used on less than half the snaps.

When I asked Google’s AI “how often do the New England Patriots play three or more WRs in 2025?” this is the response I got:
While specific snap count data for the 2025 season is not yet fully available, the New England Patriots play three or more wide receivers (11 personnel) frequently under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels…
Recent trends: As of October 14, 2025, one report indicated the Patriots used 11 personnel on 53% of their snaps in a recent game, though other reports showed a 61% usage rate. This shows the formation is a frequent choice, although its exact usage rate can vary week to week.

Anyway, I agree with you about trading for WR not being a priority. Brown might be an exception; Olave isn’t, because of his bell being rung too many times already. I’d look to bolster defense first. Main thing that needs improvement is run blocking but I don’t think that it’s realistic to add a player there now, at this point in the season, and get good results. Upgrade or added depth at RB might be possible but it isn’t likely to result in a dramatic improvement so NBD as a trade target.

I mentioned signing Gilmore weeks ago, we luv that add and could move to Safety.

Who is Young?

"I'd pay a 3rd and Young to get him"

I was referring to Keon White, just had a 2am brain cramp. I'd never move Tonga. He's a real find.

The other 14% is most likely a combination of formations with two RBs and two WRs and a sixth lineman/third TE and two WRs. There is only one way you can have three WRs is really in 11 personnel. Otherwise, you have to go with no RB or no TE. And I don't remember the Pats running any formation without a RB or TE in it.

I got my stats from AI too. But that is problem with AI. It isn't always right. So who knows which stats are right. But even so, 53% of the snaps is still not a full time starter.

And with Olave, I would want to know how he got his concussions. He has had some really bad QBs throwing to him. How many of the concussions are because his QB threw him a coffin ball putting him a position to be laid out? Maye has been really good at not putting his receivers in position to be laid out with a big hit right after catching the ball for the most part. So the concussion issue with Olave could end up being a non-factor if he came to the Patriots.

But again, for this year, I am still wanting a blocking TE or another between the tackles RB. I would rather have Breece Hall than Olave for this season. Or even Alvin Kamara who can be a versatile back.

This may potentially take Philly out of the running for edge help before the deadline. One less team to worry about.

Steph Gilmore as depth corner would be a pretty good get. He's lost a couple of steps, but he can still cover short-area with the best of them.

Truly one of my favorite all-time Patriots. And that poor guy took more ****ing libel and slander than just about anyone.
Agreed. Why we aren't in on him is a mystery?..

And he's had 6.5 sacks in his last 28 games and coming off the couch.
If they are relying on him, they are in bigger trouble than we think.
Agreed. They lost alot on the defensive side during FA.. suddenly Zach baun reverts back to a special teams player not the All pro LB.. he was last season.

One on one? Not often.
That is not the point. We need a safety that can cover a few times a game, less than 10, so we can expand the defensive playbook.

For example last game Davis blitzed and we do not have a safety that can cover Olave. If we do not have a cover safety, corner blitzes, cover zero, ect., are out of the defensive playbook. Woodson, Dugger, and Hawkins can't cover WRs. Covering often is not important, we only need the skill a handful of times a game.

We do but there aren't many guys out there that can do it well.

At this rate, trade for BTJ. I’m convinced he doesn’t want to play with Lawrence & Hunter. He’ll start catching the ball again with Maye.

Why in the world would Jax trade their best WR. Who is really good, and really young, and on a rookie contract?
