Pats #2 in rookie snaps

The fact that rookies are playing says a lot about the confidence that our coaches have in them as well as prepare them weekly for the next opponent..
Last year was an excellent draft, look forward to the same this year..

And we wouldn't have known he even played unless it's a 53 yard completion given up..
Dugger played 100% of the defensive snaps last game against the Saints. Not sure how Woodson replaced him

Woodson is the actual steal of the draft.
I will gladly die on this hill.
Agreed. Woodson has gotten better each week. He's been impressive and seems like Kurh is putting more on his plate each game..

Wilson and Woodson, picked 11 spots apart in the middle of the draft, both day one starters. Flip a coin?
Vrabel said during the off season he wants to get guys to a second contract that we're drafted and developed here.. he will have the first opportunity to do this with Marcus Jones this upcoming offseason. Will Campbell alone has been impressive enough as the our top pick taken.

???

It is NOT a mix/match. WE have starters and backups, much as we do on the OL. 100% or next man up,

IF EVERYONE IS HEALTHY
Woodson and Hawkins are in for all the defensive reps, except in perhaps garbage time at the end of the game.
Dugger, Pettus and Schooler get 0-2 reps on defense except perhaps in garbage time.

IF Woodson or Hawkins isn't available, Dugger gets 100% of the reps.
There are no reps for the others.

There is ZERO sharing of roles.
================
IF HAWKINS PLAYS LESS THAN 100% OF THE REPS
Dugger will get all of the reps when he is out.
Woodson & Hawkins don't play the same role... Woodson is the Strong Safety ... Hawkins is the Free Safety
Dugger is the first man up in case one isn't playing, as we saw in the Saints game... dual roles based on need/availability

that is, in its truest sense, a mix & match of the db positions...

Unless I am completely wrong and Woodson & Hawkins are both playing Free Safety... If I am, please, say so

an unexpected find...

I don't think anyone will (or should) argue this point considering he was a 4th round pick

Woodson versatility is his best attribute. The Safety position altogether has been a topic of discussion lately. It's in transition state. With obvious starter in Woodson. The team is likely going to be content with Hawkins and Woodson while mixing in Dugger occasionally to get by during the season. We can rest assured Safety will be highly coveted in the draft and FA.

yeah, the lines amongst the defensive position groups have been blurring for awhile now... less the clearly defined roles, more of an amorphous ambiguity based on "whatever works" ethos within those role category...

Agreed. Kurh was saying recently in an interview they knew depth is issue at certain positions. Fortunately we have some Dawgs up front on the D-line the help offset the impact of when guys were out. I'd like to see Ponder and, or, Swinson get some more opportunities to provide to the edges. Chaisson and Landry have been battling some ailments.

*Keon white has been an utter disappointment..he's a guy that had he been effective could really help the defense.

Who's using their rookies the most? Ranking NFL teams by snaps played -- and what it says about their future

“New England had been discussed as having arguably the best draft class. To this point, the production has met the expectations. Nine players have taken snaps for the Patriots…”

It bodes well to be winning early with those numbers.
Stat of the day!

And Chism as an UFA looks like he might be able to pick up snaps as a returner as well.

And of course, unlike the Jets and Browns, we don't suck!

Having seen Wolf make a heckofa lot of questionable draft moves, I'm inclined to give Vrabel the credit here, as he would certainly demand players that fit with his scheme - as opposed to Wolf apparently shopping for players who fit Mayo's scheme!
