I'm just more willing to risk occasional chunk plays in the pursuit of more negative plays for the opposing offenses. It's becoming more and more a reality that getting teams in 3rd and long situations more often is the way to stop big drives and you get that by creating negative plays. I want a defense that is active rather than passive. 1,3 and 4 are very important elements to making that work. You really know how to twist the knife, don't you?
The better #1, 3 and 4 are, the more I'm willing to let loose with #2.
If you can afford to get a very good one then sure, but they come with a price. I no longer just want to make-do on the edge. Make it a strength.I think we will be better off shopping for a new edge rusher in FA than in the draft.
Not to be math whiz, but Have a stud at QB = closer to 70% of the SBs this century. 16, maybe 17, out of 24. Hopefully Maye is a stud QB.In general, I think the 2 most successful formulas for winning a championship:
1. Have a stud at QB. Brady (7), Mahomes (3), P. Manning (2), Rothlisberger (2), Warner (1) and Rodgers (1) have won 60% of the SBs this century.
2. Have a dominant defense, especially with an overloaded DL. Baltimore (2001), Tampa Bay (2002), the Giants (2007, 2011), Seattle (2013) and Philly (2024) won with that approach. Denver in 2015 to some extent.
I don't know many teams that had both.
TJ Parker primarily played in a wide defensive end technique last season, similar to what TJ Watt does for Pittsburgh. This season, they have had him without his hand in the dirt, playing more of an outside linebacker position.
He had just 12 and 16 coverage snaps in his first two years, but has already reached 13 this year, showing that they trust him to disguise looks with simulated pressures every now and then. While he hasn’t been as dangerous rushing the passer, he still has high potential and often flashes.
Thank you.I'm not as focused on sacks and pressures as you. But I want an aggressive, active defense with outside pressure to complement Barmore and Williams inside. I'm focused on either an EDGE (Bain/Faulk/Parker/Bailey/Rhodes) or hybrid LB/EDGE (Reese/Styles/Golday/Hill) with one of our first 2 picks.
PFSN had a 3 round mock yesterday. Bailey went 11, Reese 14, Faulk 17. They gave the Pats TJ Parker at 19. What was intriguing was this:
3-Round 2026 NFL Mock Draft: Jets Start Another Rebuild, Browns Take A Shot On Another QB
Mark Stolte’s 2026 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterbacks and edge rushers headline the first three rounds. See your favorite team's hypothetical future franchise players.www.profootballnetwork.com
This is interesting. It suggests an explanation for Parker's decreased pash rush numbers, and also that he could be used in multiple fronts.
Parker is currently in the same tier as Bailey for me but I want to get away from the 'jack of all trades, master of none' mentality in building a roster. Those guys are needed for balance but a team needs to have elite talent too, people who are elite at a particular skillset. I know we differ on this and that's reasonable.I'm not as focused on sacks and pressures as you. When I post these PFF breakdowns, I’m merely offering data so that others can make informed opinions. I have no agenda. Yes, Bailey’s climbing fast up my board but I realise I’m on an island on this. He absolutely is. It’s a shame he’s got really short arms - about 30” I believe. This is a good year for us to have to draft an Edge guy early (unless we sign a FA or trade for one).
I watched some of the Florida/Texas A&M game last night. Cash Howell is a menace.
