With Gibson out for the year

Yes, let's put worse players on the field because you're afraid of them getting hurt.
Always a genius take.

Limiting a valuable player's snap counts and not putting them in harms way is part of the fabric of today's game.

Or do you think Drake Maye should go Josh Allen on every carry?

There's a theory that the Pats have decided kick returners need to be bigger and heartier than punt returners, hence putting the RBs back there. We'll see if that holds true as they replace Gibson.

i have real concerns about Rham fielding KO's like he did in the Buffalo game... statistically the fumble numbers are a blip, but with his propensity to cough up the ball, STers are going to target him, and those results could be disastrous...

I'm not sure who should be taking over the role of KR, but i know I don't want Rham back there...

Yeah. It's tough to tell if Vrabel is taking the fumble concerns as highly as he should.

Terrell Jennings is sitting on the practice squad... work him as a KR this week, see what ya got...

It's time for Marcus Jones to be on Kick Return.

I don't need to see Stevenson back there ever again, and I'll just assume Vrabel semi-panicked. They'll kick to him every time, and we'll get 18 yard kick returns, and pray he doesn't fumble.

Pull the trigger, Mike.

Heck - put him out there for the 10 snaps a game that Gibson was playing at RB too.

He can handle the added snaps and it sure as hell would cause defenses to take notice of him on the field on those few running plays.

Some question whether he could be as good a blocking RB as Gibson. Somehow, I don't see Jones having a problem blocking.

Why don’t you post your not evidence of his not great success as a not kick returner in not college…
FYSA: Efton Chism: 30 KRs in college for a 21 yard average .
Note: also 45 punt returns, but you didnt ask about that so I aint doing that math to get an avg

I agree with the "find any way to get Chism on the active roster" philosophy !!!

Really wish Lan Larison didnt get hurt in preseason. It would have been great to bring him into the rotation and he also could handlekick offs. As a sophomore he handled 23 kickoffs and ran one back for 96 yards.

On top of that he just didn’t look the part back there. Could have been the fumble issues playing with his head but i can’t imagine we don’t have a better option

This has gotten a bit off topic on KR vice Gibsons' full-time RB job, but..... Question:

I know that you can only have 2 guys back in the landing zone; but how much can they move around.

I was hearing that they were deliberately kicking away from Henderson.
So if H lined up on Right side and then shifted at last minute to Left;....that could at least mess up the kicker or possibly both kicker & coverage teams if kicker then kicks to where Henderson isnt and the coverage guys all think it going the other way. And maybe it gets the ball in Henderson's hands for a good return.

IS THAT LEGAL (the movement)?

i didn't know LL handled some KRs... would be a real asset to have him on the roster at this point

In HS, we always had two KRs cross after taking the kick. Other team would never know which had the ball after the cross. Worked pretty well at that level but in the pros ... ?

17 games of 75 percent snaps at DB is worth more than a few KRs. What if they put him out there and he does in his knee. Reserve him for the most important snaps.
I get it roc: Marcus is a very good Slot CB but he's also an electric returner: who can turn the tide of a game. Marcus Jones is a really good Draft Pick.

Does returning in college even matter that much given the differences in the format of the return?

I guess it's better to have some experience than none but clearly we feel it takes a different skill set than in the past.

I would rather go with a guy that has some game experiences fielding kicks. If they muck it up its almost certainly results in points or horrendous field position. I did a few in high school and its an entirely different animal than catching a pass.

a fine experiment during practices
