last pass to Diggs

That's the needle they have to thread. They need to make sure Maye knows when to take those chances and when it's better to just live to fight another down.
If Maye had just chucked it up there, I would have been screaming 'Heroball' right along with what's left of Curran's addled mind.

He didn't. Hit Diggs in the hands. I'm good with that.

When he tosses it downfield into double coverage, that's the stuff I can't handle as well. What's Maye supposed to do there? Take a sack? 2nd and 18? So you run twice and punt the ball back with a minute and change left? Throw it away ahead of the 2 minute warning? I dunno, I'm good with that particular play.

The announcers were saying the Bills had put a spy on Maye so he couldn't roll right and Maye did anyway.

That's one of those plays where I don't envy Vrabel and McD having to tell Maye, "That was amazing and probably saved us the game. Now don't do it again."
He did nothing wrong.

They just need to tell Maye to go play football.
His decision making has been stellar. Don’t hold him back.

There have been other plays in his short career where he's done almost the exact move and fumbled or been intercepted. Again, it's fine because of the nature of where they were in this game, but if this was in the third period, take the sack or throw it away.

what i found most astounding about last nights game is that not one bills fan smuggled any marital aides into the game during a prime time game. i thought that was their newest tradition. that might have been why they lost because the players didn't feel the crowd was really behind them. they need to get back to their roots.

That was maybe the best play so far in Maye’s young career.
What it reminded me of is that failed play by Mahomes against the Bucs in the Superbowl a few years back. With the difference that instead of playing hero ball to get to the end zone and ultimately clanking the throw off someone's helmet by throwing it way too hard where his receiver isn't expecting it, Maye used his eyes to find an open Diggs, who saw the play breaking down and called for the pass, and managed to hit him so that Diggs could miss tackles and move the sticks.

Bottom line, two things have to happen here

1: Maye has to realize the play is busted and be moving towards open space before the defender reaches him. Which he did

2: Diggs has to realize the play is busted and get open for a rapid checkdown, which he did.

Full credit to both players for finding a way to salvage that play and keep the offense moving forward.

Oh god, the 'greatest incompletion of all time'

With the difference that Maye used his eyes better, and found an open man and moved the sticks for a first down, rather than trying to throw for a 30 point touchdown.

What I'm saying here is that Drake may be a fair bit smarter than pat.

Maye is country boy strong. Tom Brady could not have pulled this play off. Think about it.

Are we in uncharted waters?
1st and 10, before the 2 minute warning. Brady probably throws it away and lives the next down. So, to answer the question, sure, it's uncharted 'round these parts. We haven't seen this type of athleticism at QB.

His decision making has been stellar this year . Don’t hold him back.

The anti-bildo netting they installed to dissuade such behavior actually worked!

And Stevenson ran right by the guy as he was coming in, I'm assuming because he was part of the pattern(s). Crazy that Maye pulled that off. He looked like he should've been taken down, and somehow made that throw.
That just speaks to Maye's strength and athleticism to be able to keep upright long enough to complete the pass with a defender draped all over him. It was the KEY drive starting pass in the final 2 minutes. That's just pure ability and instinct. Nobody can coach a player to deal with that kind of situation because usually that just ends up a loss.

Curran can't stand seeing Maye excelling. He hated the pick.

I re-watched that incredible play by Maye on their last possession and a few comments:

1. I would love to know what happened with the blocking on that one because it looked like a disaster from the start. Campbell and Wilson pulled at the snap but the rest of the line pretty much blocked straight on which left the DT with a free run at Maye.

2. Curran was complaining to Perry that this was a dumb play by Maye and that he shouldn't have even tried making that pass to Diggs. If Maye takes a sack or throws it away, the Patriots are likely punting in a few plays. If this play occurs in the 2nd qtr, I'm agreeing with Curran....live another day. But in this instance, this is likely the game and I'm glad Maye relied on his instincts and made an amazing athletic play.
I watched that play several times trying to figure out the blocking. Campbell and Wilson may have been moving right for a roll out pass, but everything was so muddy, you couldn’t really tell.

You think all those roll outs to the right were designed plays? To me, it looked like he was escaping the rush.
Not only was this a designed roll out but I'm convinced it was a designed QB run IMO. Watch Mack Hollins. He is looking to make a block. That's what makes Diggs knowing the play was busted and getting open so incredible.

Only a handful of other nfl QBs can make that throw. One we’ll see Sunday. Spencer Rattler.

If that had been a designed run, wouldn't there have been illegal linemen blocking downfield when that pass was thrown?
