The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

I think that Bill Belichick is a great topic for Pats fans. And it looks like plenty of others agree.

I'm curious how Bill will do in college. Pete Carroll did pretty well when he made the switch, but he went to a football school.
Careful. Your QB and the WR who caught a TD pass on Sunday are Tar Heels. UNC being a basketball Blue Blood does not give Belichick a pass to be a mediocrity, especially in this era of NIL money where Belichick has enough money at his disposal to be on par with Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame and the others with $20+ million to spread around. Expectations are high in Chapel Hill, and so far we're not impressed with the product on the field and the circus off the field. He has yet to win a FBS game.

You know not of what you speak, Spaceman.

That's good news for Bill that he won't have to pretend to be a bible thumper to get his next bit of trim.

Not so good for Jordon tho...

What a hater!11!

It has some hot stuff in it!

Two weeks in, though, those diamonds are looking pretty rough. A coaching staff whose nepotistic assembly would make Mack Brown blush was celebrated — it must be the best Chapel Hill would ever see, because it had been created by the GOAT.

Bill Belichick soft-launched the majority of his coaching staff, which appears to be made mostly of newcomers to college football, and in several cases newcomers to football altogether — most did not receive individual welcome graphics from UNC Football’s social media. Brian Belichick and Matt Lombardi appear to have few credentials other than being related to the coach and general manager; Jamie Collins, Natrone Means, Armond Hawkins, and Ty Nichols are on their first gigs at anything approaching this level; Bob Diaco and Freddie Kitchens are punchlines to anybody who knows their names. The commentators for Saturday’s game noted that Kitchens was handed the offensive coordinator job essentially because nobody else was taking it.

Coaches lie all the time, but usually it’s exaggeration or obfuscation, not legitimately saying the opposite of the truth, so it’s hard to think that this hypothetical explanation, offered all over the place everywhere I see UNC sports discussions, is in fact the case.

All of this reeks of No-Fastball Era BB.

Do schools like UNC usually pull assistants with NFL experience?
Assistant coaches cross back and forth all the time between college and pro jobs. Clyde Christiansen, who graduated from UNC the same year I did and was a backup QB, has coached Brady and Manning in Tampa Bay and Indianapolis and Denver. He was on Mack Brown's staff at UNC last year. Bill O'Brien, HC of BC, was Brady's OC before going to Penn State as HC, to Alabama as OC under Nick Saban, and as HC of the Houston Texans. Theses guys move around all the time. Guys like Nick Saban are the exception and not the rule, and even he spent a year as HC of the Dolphins, a job he did not like nor was good at.

Thx so seems like Brian and Matt have as much experience probably more than Clyde Christensen so more than qualified for their hire.

But seems like you'd need to be at a power house to pull someone like O'Brien.

I'm trying to remember the last time I followed college football. I think it was when Doug Flutie played for BC.

I must say that I have some empathy for all of the UNC fans. Bill's off to a very rocky start, on and off the field.

UNC +6.5 road dogs against UCF. It will be extremely difficult for Bill to get to 7 wins without a victory in Orlando, all this with a really, really favorable schedule.

One of BIll's biggest defenders in sports media comes out with this take.

It's a another dumb take.

Harbaugh has a great resume having done it at both levels and at multiple teams on each level.

But under those criteria doesn't Jimmy Johnson, Carroll, Schwitzer, and a few others have a better resume.

And of course it's still not better than 8.

Plus Bill's coming for that too.

Makes sense. Walsh wasn’t successful at Stanford. BB isn’t either so far. Saban wasn’t really successful in the pros. Meyer was a disaster.

I’d say it’s Harbaugh or JJ? Harbaugh has more wins I think?

Yeah the show is Dancing with the Stars not Dancing with the Opportunists and Grifters

She would qualify for Dancing with the Unlikely Real Estate Moguls though.
