Out-of-towner listening to Felger and Mazz for first time in 9 months

If you don’t like them, don’t listen. Simple.

I caught the Monday podcast yesterday night and the first 3 callers struck me as really weird. I'll list what they said below, but my larger takeaway is this:

Felger and Mazz cultivate callers that either largely mimic their twisted takes, or else there's something in the water around Boston.

The first 3 callers of the show made 3 points:

1. "Belichick was hard to take as a HC because of his press conference demeanor even when he was winning SBs. But Mike McDaniels is acting like Scarface and he's losing which makes him doubly hard to take."

Now, do Boston area fans really share the media's hatred of Belichick's demeanor? The media hated him because it was their job to despise an un-media friendly coach. But why does this carry over to the fans? People anywhere else in the USA wouldn't care at all about this. Most would probably enjoy their coach snubbing the media. Why do Boston fans follow Felger's lead on this? It's bizarre.
When you’re winning, you can answer every single question with “go **** yourself” and the local fans will eat it up and ask for seconds.

Belichick’s problem is it has been 6 years since he won anything so the same schtick isn’t quite as endearing to the folks in Chapel Hill.

As I wrote, typically I don't. I'm noting there are Patriot fans who mimic their truly weird takes. Cut Schooler, get rid of coaches who are curmudgeons, trade Gonzalez and Vrabel is an embarrassment, these are objectively bizarre takes shared by both the hosts and their callers.

My podcast app auto-syncs a half hour before I wake up. My car is made in 2005 but I have a bluetooth dongle that plugs into to the car's AUX port and pairs to my phone automatically so I can use the car speakers. It cost less than a trip to a fast food restaurant costs these days.

To me I'd rather do that than listen to a few minutes of commercials in my seven minute commute.

you typed a lot of good words, but lost me at dongle lol

kidding, but will it work with my first gen ford sync system? pairing my phone works automatically sometimes, others i have to hit a few buttons and go through the manual process

Once upon a time the main "madhouse" in London was Bethlehem Hospital, from which we get the term "bedlam," the ****ney pronunciation of "Bethlehem." The hospital maintained a balcony from which the public for a fee could look down at the lunatics cavorting in a courtyard. Felger's show is pretty much the modern equivalent of that balcony, except that Felger's show is free. Now that is progress!

Go to amazon.com and search for "bluetooth to aux car adapter" and you'll see what I'm talking about. It even offers to filter the result by car make and model, at least it did for me.

Most cars in the time frame of your car have an AUX port meant to plug audio devices into, and a way to select it as the input for the car stereo. These devices need one of these.

In addition to an AUX port you will need a source of power. In my case, I use an adapter in the cigarette lighter socket since I don't smoke.

I'm pretty lucky since my car has both an AUX port and an extra cigarette lighter plug in the center console so I can put this stuff in there and it doesn't get in the way.

There are other approaches using a bluetooth-to-FM adapter that makes your bluetooth show up as a new FM radio station, but I've had bad luck with these in the past since it's hard to find an unused spot in the FM band to let the device do its thing.

my car is new enough that my phone will link via bluetooth through ford sync.......in a perfect world i hit my aux button and the phone syncs automatically, because it remembers my phone......in reality this works a small percentage of the time, usually i have to scroll though a series of buttons to select a new source via bluetooth......because i live so close to school, my time margins in the morning are usually pretty thin haha.....so turning the car on and having 95.5 on is just....easier

but thanks for sharing that

2. "Schooler is here to make special teams tackles and he acts all tough all the time but he was flat on his back on the PR return. Schooler should be cut!!!"

Felger says Schooler is so annoying and he acts like a hardo (how do you spell that). Did not disabuse the idea of cutting Schooler.

3. "Gonzo should be traded tomorrow because he's constantly injured. Get rid of him."

This speaks for itself.

4. "Vrabel humiliated himself running down the field for Gibson's TD."

Felger and Mazz said he looked like such a "homer." ??? I have no idea why they called Vrabel a homer. He's the coach of the team. He's supposed to root for both team's equally?

These two talk show hosts have some truly bizarre takes which are largely imitated by their callers. I was reminded why I haven't listened to the station since last October.
Don’t listen to them. It’s an act. They absolutely suck. Embarrassing.

Years ago Felger and Mazz filled a void left when Weei opted to be an ass kissing local sports team vibe. When Kirk and Callahan went away it was just a totally unlistenable station with all the drawing power of the short lived AM crap fest that Eddie Andelman ran back in the mid 2000s

Once the show turned into “you’re a stupid homer fan if you are enjoying the product because there’s a good chance they won’t go all the way” dumpster fire I never went back nor would I contemplate doing so

Why would you listen to people who tell you you’re an idiot for following a team that’s not 100% perfect?

Felger and Mazz haven’t said any of the items you listed.

They definitely have. I personally watched one day when they suggested trading Gonzo, and said Vrabel embarrassed himself running down the sideline. They may have not used those exact words, but it was very close.

I have never listened to Felger and Mazz. Is that weird? Probably. Why bother? I don't even know what they look like. The last sports radio show I listened to on a regular basis was the Big Show. Loved those guys.

That trio including Murray are pathetic. Can’t take anything they say seriously, they just hate and will rip on anything Pats. Callers….well like posters in here. Some have valid points and astute observations. Others are clueless.
They are what they are. Their brand is negativity, I guess it works for them.
And really a god damned shame their ugly and pathetic negativity works for the assholes. I refuse to listen to the twits.

I stopped listening to sports radio twenty years ago, mainly because of the idiots that called in. It seem to me that hosts like felger and spazz, eddie andelman, glen ordway had their favorite idiots that would have idiotic view points like Dakota from Braintree, or Al from Everet.
Always been that way.
The 1st sports talk show guys in Boston were Clif Keane from the Globe and Larry Claflin from the Herald back in the late 60's early 70's.
Their show was called Clif and Claf.
They were always negative.
My Dad was in the newspaper biz and said it was common knowledge that Yaz referred to them as Syph and Clap, lol.

Yup. Never have. Never will.

I only go back to the early nineties with boston sports radio

They said 3 of the 4. I was CLEAR in the original post that the CUT GONZO only came from a caller. Another one said CUT SCHOOLER and so they went off on Schooler as liability who acts like a hardo. What I wrote about their reaction to Vrabel's run down the sideline was verbatim.
