I know it goes against the grain, firing from the hip being the preferred reaction here to every situation, but I'll withhold judgement until we know more. Look at me being a rebel

I don't get it. He was a gamer, super competitive, and physical. I would have thought he was the type of player Vrabel would want on the team.

This and the Milton trade are head scratchers to me.

I agree that we just need to see how it plays out. I am deeply skeptical about the move but it all depends on Hawkins, Woodson and Pettus and how they play.

You’re still confused about the Milton deal after watching him this preseason??

What on earth is going on. Very odd roster management to say the least. Starting safety released a week before game 1 but AFTER cutdowns and a whole training camp?

Also…are we sure this is real?
Echoes of Lawyer Milloy who was also released after cut downs but before game 1 when he refused to take a pay cut. Not saying it is the same here, but timing is the same.

I think this had to have been either

A. They cut him because of off field issues.

B. They cut him because he was going to take a reduced role, and he requested for his release.

If they really had no plans to at least use him in some capacity, he would’ve been cut days ago.

So Peppers is a box safety and doesn't have the skills to cover the dominant passing game. And you are complaining about cutting him? We have not had a free safety since Devin McCourty left. Maybe they have CB/FS in mind who is better at coverage because Dugger, Hawkins, and Woodson are box safeties too.
Story was, they were playing a lot of cover 4 in camp and we saw some of that against Washington. And Peppers was the slot guy in those situations. Playing this type of defense requires more backpedaling / coverage skill out of the strong safeties than in Bill’s defense and the knockoff version Mayo tried last year.

So conceptually this makes sense along with Dugger. But with the timing, the relatively low salary for Peppers, the lack of any trade rumors (unlike Dugger)? Something smells off to me here, like they were ok with having Peppers here but something off the field or in the locker room happened that blew up quickly, to make them decide a non-pure scheme fit like him wasn’t worth the hassle.

Simple.

Dugger was willing to stay with his reduced role.

Peppers was unwilling to stay.

Clown for Downs.

I don't really think it's a clown move, I just liked the rhyme. A surprising one for sure though.

Yeah, need some more info before I hit the hard liquor. It IS still morning here after all.

Kinda weird, though...I liked Peppers on the field, at least most of the time.

Hawkins, Dugger, Woodson, are your starters now... so Dugger who can't cover and was on the block. Woodson great potential but a rookie, and Hawkins who can't catch... just great!!! Then to make things even better gonzo is uncertain... I don't understand this move for my guy peppers.. but you know something I'm still riding with Vrabel and his vision...

Vrabel said the roster would be drastically different. I think he’s jettisoning everyone in leadership that was here during b2b 4 win seasons.

The timing is odd.

Odd, it was supposed to be Dugger wasn’t it?

Jaylin Hawkins isn’t a starting safety, I hope that isn’t part of this plan.

I'd buy this explanation for a dollar, but the timing is indeed...strange.
