But why would we want to bring on another teams nobody when we are loaded with so much talent….

It is hard to believe that no player from another team is better than the guys the Pats had in camp. The Pats drafted well this year, so they must have recent quality evaluations on the other players. Can not get too sentimental.

The PS is just as fluid as the roster.

Current rules don’t allow bidding for PS players, so why would players from any team join a PS for a different team if the team that signed them and had them through camp wants them on the PS?

Not to mention they don't make much on the PS, so the expense of moving is pretty big. Though to be fair many of these guys have no home of their own right now.

Back of the roster guys are either living in a hotel or renting a room from a vet.

Chism, per media reports, was doing the former. Edelman, IIRC, rented a room from Matt Slater.

It's missing Wheelchair Baker.

True, but if you are a 6th depth piece on a team w 2 probowlers & 3 solid vets and get an offer from a team with 4 average guys to be 5 in their depth chart…..you might see a better opportunity. Then throw in coach relationships & there can be multiple reasons to try a greener pasture.

But for 80-90% of PS players you are correct.

Is there something to be said to resigning guys you know, their work ethic, familiarity with the Pats system etc. as opposed to signing players from other teams simply because they are from other teams??
Despite this being labeled a "weak draft" the Pats seems to have chosen some quality players.. this whole process is dynamic and can change.

Same point holds from the coaching staff point of view. While they are experienced as individuals, they are all working together as a team for the first time. At this time their focus is putting in their Week 1 game plan, not bringing in a new inexperienced guy who doesn't know where the men's room is.

The reality is if they wanted anyone off another team's PS a few weeks ago when they could have worked him into their system all they needed to do was offer some future late-round draft capital and they could have him.

There is a reason those players aren't on their own team's 53, their own team values 53 other guys more highly.

Sure, there may be some diamonds in the rough, but there's a lot more roughage than diamonds.

depends on the contract offer... players with less than 2 years experience get 13k a week... players with 2 or more seasons have a salary range of 17,500 to 22k a week...

players do go from team to team, especially if their agent does their job and identifies teams that may be deficient in certain areas that will possibly help their client land on the 53 man roster at some point...

Would be nice to add a developmental OL, someone like Marcus Bryant if we didn’t already have him.

Imagine this Future OL: LT M Bryant LG T-Rex Campbell - C J Wilson RG Onwenu's Replacement - RT Corpse Moses Replacement. We would have gotten Three Guys from the same Draft.
