Not one person has said that, but as usual you go black and white because you can’t defend your indefensible stance. Plenty of people have noted that they still need to shore up areas of the roster, they just don’t go on and on about it for hours on end acting like the roster is set and they are screwed. I used to run a daycare, this reminds me of taking a toy from a 3 year old who tried to bite a kid who tried to share it. Full blown temper tantrum.

Why should I wait until I see fire. If it's getting hot and something seems wrong shouldn't I speak up?

There is one emerging youngster who has started to establish himself and seems poised for a breakout year:

There are three inexperienced but highly promising rookies:
Baker (essentially a rookie)
Chism
Williams

I think it should be viewed as the first five are the starters, the last three are the backups. Game day actives will likely be a mix biased towards the established vets. As they establish themselves the mix may shift. They may run with six or even seven active, with Baker getting ST time and the two rookies being used lightly until they establish themselves and build trust with their coaches.

Good thinking but let’s save this line of reasoning til after the waiver wire is completed, and Practice squads is formed.

I would put Pop in the 2nd category too. I don't think JMD or Vrabel KNOW for sure Pop is a trusted vet just yet.
He's a 3rd year WR (who is on his 3rd consecutive HC & OC)
But, last year was a pretty sneaky great year for a 2nd year drafted WR in NE, so everything should keep trending up.

Agree but not sure Baker is in the "highly promising" category. I doubt he stays on the 53

I would put Pop in the 2nd category too. I don't think JMD or Vrabel KNOW for sure Pop is a trusted vet just yet.

I just want to take this opportunity to gloat because I was projecting Brown as a valuable piece at IOL all offseason when EVERYONE claimed he wouldn't even make it to camp. And now, he may start week 1 at LG. Great story for him.

Also crazy to note that 3 rookie OL made the 53. That just shows how horrible we've been there.
I still think Lowe might be gone this week, if they can find a better OT on the wire or trade. (I just don't trust Moses will last long)

I don’t really understand why Bourne made the 53, after not participating during training camp for the past three week with a knee inury, rather than being put on the IR to return list (or being cut)?

Maybe McDaniels really pushed for him because he did so well in his offense during their one year together or maybe they think he has some potential trade value and just has to show that he is healthy. There are a few teams who are really desperate for wide receivers, Minnesota being at the top of that list.

Bourne is a well known commodity: very highly regarded experienced veteran who has played well for McDaniels in the past. They know each other very well.

Details of his current injury are unknown, in particular whether it was his knee. He got rolled up on. That might be a foot, ankle, leg. We don’t know what was injured. We don’t know the severity of the injury. He had just finished a comeback year after rehabbing an ACL repair. They may just have shut him down out of an abundance of caution. They may just have used it as an excuse to redshirt him and give other WRs more chance to show their stuff because they already know what Bourne brings to the table.

What Bourne brings to the table is a solid veteran NFL WR, reliable and versatile. He knows Josh and played well for Josh in the past. His game on the field is good, he gets open and catches the ball. His problems in the past have been off the field. He got himself on the wrong side of his coaches when he knew more than they did about the offense they were trying to run (some have blamed him for speaking up; I blame the coaches for misusing a valuable resource). He got his ACL injured and was out for the rest of the season and hampered the next year. That’s all part of life in the NFL, and through it all he’s been a positive locker room presence.

I’m looking for he and Josh to replicate their former success together.

I get it but the likelihood that born is going to play a critical role early in the season after missing most training camp seems low, so why not put him on IR to return?

Maybe he's ready to practice now.

Essentially, the Pats are protecting their WRs because many teams have issues at this position right now and they think they may be able to get some trade value for them. Kyle Dugger is also in a similar boat. Conversely, there's not as big of a clamoring for interior linemen and the ones NE cut weren't that hot anyway. Once waiver claims process and teams see if they did or did not get the guys they claimed, those teams who did not have a successful claim will be more likely to raise their bid in a trade for a player from NE.

Additionally, NE may get some successful waiver claims themselves which will create a need to cut the same number of players in return.

Yeah I don't get why you would want to give up Kyle Dugger, Bourne, or Jennings for zip, and likely have to pay a good portion of their salary. These are real NFL players.

A guy like Swinson wasn't going to play anyway, and they have an UFA development guy who beat him out. Maybe they feel Swinson is better off long term with a wake up call, rather than handed a roster spot because of a draft position or scouting reports. None of us know the players to really know what's best.

Teams will be desperate in a few weeks. Let's see what happens with our players who were cut.
