You've been around a long time too have you ever seen a post roster cutdown with one guard and 8 WRs.

Yup I vented but I never calmed down because it's just too glaring of a hole. It even kept me up a little late.

What part of you doesn’t understand that they aren’t done settting their roster yet? You know they aren’t going to go with 8 WR’s but you keep going on and on about as if they will. They haven’t even been able to put in claims on players yet and you act like they are all done.

He probably made it because Vrabel has been impressed with his work ethic, maturity, professionalism and his willingness to embrace the opportunity to play special teams as a way to make the 53. The coaches clearly sees Baker’s potential as a special teams stand out. He also has good size and contested catch abilities.

You say that he “sucks” but how many practice reps did you see him take this offseason? Not many, most likely. Did you watch the All-22 tapes on the 3 preseason games, focusing on Baker? Definitely not. You don’t think that being stuck with a **** QB played a role in his lack of production in the preseason? He got open in the back of the end zone against the Vikings but Dobbs was late recognizing that and then threw an inaccurate pass. On another target, he made an excellent contested catch on the sideline but Dobbs again was inaccurate and Baker had no chance to get his feet in bounds. Context matters.

Having written all of that, it wouldn’t be surprising for Baker to be cut if they are successful with a couple of waiver claims.

You could have saved the keystrokes and just written that. No one have been a Bigger Baker fan than me: but I have given up. I have seen more than enough and it's all too familiar.

Not one person has said that, but as usual you go black and white because you can’t defend your indefensible stance. Plenty of people have noted that they still need to shore up areas of the roster, they just don’t go on and on about it for hours on end acting like the roster is set and they are screwed. I used to run a daycare, this reminds me of taking a toy from a 3 year old who tried to bite a kid who tried to share it. Full blown temper tantrum.

The players I’m actually more flumuxed by than Baker (if bro turns into a solid Gunner that’s actually solid) are:

Polk -Dear God what a terrible pick.
Wallace-I don’t think he’s here in two weeks.

Wolf’s solo draft was…something.

Essentially, the Pats are protecting their WRs because many teams have issues at this position right now and they think they may be able to get some trade value for them. Kyle Dugger is also in a similar boat. Conversely, there's not as big of a clamoring for interior linemen and the ones NE cut weren't that hot anyway. Once waiver claims process and teams see if they did or did not get the guys they claimed, those teams who did not have a successful claim will be more likely to raise their bid in a trade for a player from NE.

Additionally, NE may get some successful waiver claims themselves which will create a need to cut the same number of players in return.

Case in point: Old ass Adam Thielen (who is 35 years old) was just traded to the Vikings (who don't even have a need at WR) from the Panthers for a 5th this year AND a 4th in two years. Earlier today, Tim Patrick was traded for a 6th. The WR trade market is real.

I think it’s the way that the coaching staff is creating a balance between experience and youth, to win games while developing for the future.

There are four reliable experienced veterans that McD and Vrabes know and trust:
Bourne
Diggs
Douglas
Hollins

There is one emerging youngster who has started to establish himself and seems poised for a breakout year:
Boutte

There are three inexperienced but highly promising rookies:
Baker (essentially a rookie)
Chism
Williams

I think it should be viewed as the first five are the starters, the last three are the backups. Game day actives will likely be a mix biased towards the established vets. As they establish themselves the mix may shift. They may run with six or even seven active, with Baker getting ST time and the two rookies being used lightly until they establish themselves and build trust with their coaches.
