Patriots Player Departure OFFICIAL 2025 Patriots roster cutdown day discussion / tracker

This makes Bourne not being IR-DTR an even bigger head scratcher.
Bourne is extremely well regarded by the players and coaching staff as a veteran in that room. If he's on the field in five wide sets, he can be a threat. Last season he was the #1 wideout and couldn't separate. If Diggs draws the top DB, Bourne can be productive.

Unless he’s actually not hurt anymore, which may be possible. He would have rightly been upset if placed on IR while healthy enough to play now. Who knows at this point?
There are still trades to be made. Sometimes, you have to keep someone on the 53 to make an interested team know that they are not getting that player aside for trading for him. Not that they will get much more than a third day pick for any of them, but I would not be surprised in the least if one of Bourne, Jennings and Dugger or more is traded in the next few days. If not, the spot on the 53 is being held by a legit NFL caliber player who might be useful for depth or be available to trade in season.

He isn’t even the fifth WR.

Diggs
Pop
Boutte
Williams
Hollins

Are in front of him.

When I first looked at the updated roster, I missed F-ton on the list and was ready to loose my ****.

Surprised Mapu isn't a cut. I assume he's a heavy special teamer.
Mapu has been the only guy that shown any real ability to cover Tight Ends. That being real sore spot on this defense made Mapu a likely keep just for that skill alone.

Seeing a lot of folks worrying about the composition of the roster as if there's a game tomorrow. It's the same deal every year. What you see on cutdown day ain't the same as the next few days.

So no, there won't be 8 WRs, and there won't be so few linemen. Just wait for the dust to settle.

They kept 6 DL.
They kept 5 CB and 6 safeties if you count Schooler. 7 safeties if you count Mapu.

Why would you keep extra OL if they aren't as good as the WR you have? Help me comprehend that train of thought.
The OL is an interesting situation this year. The reports out of camp by Moses and others were that this was the best OL coaching staff they'd ever worked with. (Dante was the very best ever in my estimation.) That said, they must have talked long and hard about who to keep and who to let go. I'm very interested to see who they sign off the waiver wire and if Cole Strange comes back if he clears waivers. There will probably be three practice squad offensive linemen. On defense, this team is much faster and smaller than the Belichick teams. I'm glad they kept Dugger - he worked his ass off in camp to make this team.

Are people that keep repeating how dumbfounded they are over the 8 receivers being intentionally dense about the situation?

It takes little brain power to read between the lines here.

I really like the way this Patriots management goes about business. Loved the analytical style draft. I really like how they are analyzing these players regardless of draft status. Swinson a 5th rounder, too bad, beat out by UDFA Ponder.
Cloe Strange struggling but you get 100% dead cap and no cap relief: release him anyways.

They have a plan, they execute, let's just hope they can keep building this team, future is bright with these guys IMO.

Just looking for attention.

I didn't think vested vets with 3 years didn't have to clear waivers.. Only those with less than 3 years. (EDIT: I stand corrected. It's 4 accrued).
