He was allowed to be reckless with that ability to run last season under the YMCA coaching staff. He played hero ball at times. Look for Drake to have designed runs.. if it's 3 and 2 sure go for the 2 or 3 yards get what you can go out of bounds or get right down. I feel Drake has learned this. McDaniels was raving about how smart Drake is and how he already has a strong grasp of the play book.

My concern after watching the preseason, executing the system on a chalkboard and on a controlled practice field, is different than actual game speed and competition.

I think We will know what we have by week 8.

Losing Dante Scar was the 2nd greatest loss for the Pats after Brady.

Brady could make it so an OL looked pretty good by not holding on to the ball and getting his throws away quickly. I recall when Strange was drafted and how he was adept at running Shanahan's "outside zone" OL concept.
No man can Coach forever unfortunately.

Don't think there'll be any takers.
Dugger is going to be here.. there's more behind why Dugger was playing late in pre-season.. Dugger was behind from the ankle injury and the new defensive scheme.. Vrabel said he's alot more comfortable and looks closer to himself. Besides I don't think they want to eat his salary.. they know they have to pay gonzo next season.

I feel we need to start fast try to accumulate wins early. This is the part of the season to do so.. before teams can really get a bead on what we are doing schematically. We have been piss poor in September for years now.. time to change the narrative.. we have the capability to start out 4-0. The first team up is LV, we owe them a L.. that embarrassing loss with the backwards pass, and then again in 2023.. Parker looses sight of the ball.

The Wolf and Groh Effect............

Then he stays this year. I'm really not made about it either way tbh. If he stays, there will come a point this year where he ends up making a big play, I have a feeling.

This.

Probably the best OL coach ever. Certainly the best assistant coach the Pats have ever had and they’ve had some great ones.
Dante just might be the GOAT of OL coaches. The Guy flew under the radar never seeking publicity. His name did not come up until he was gone.

Under Dante's guidance, OL who struggled on other clubs came to NE and excelled. If a Starting OL was out, Dante had a replacement who filled in seamlessly.

for me, Robinson is a 4th rd pick that played 55% of the team offensive snaps, between 2 spots, LG and RG. he had some really nice plays in the run game. some similarities to Shaq.
all while playing under poor coaching and scheme.
I hope he stays here on IR all season, as opposed to taking an injury settlement, gets stronger, improves his technique and learns the offense better.
would like to see him back competing next season, where presumably Onwenu more than likely is not here, and Wilson is at OC

We will see.

Third was losing McDaniels,
Fourth was losing Pioli,
Fifth was losing Flores.

Actually, I think that right up there was Ernie Adams retiring. He was the only one that Belichick would listen to as he descended into reverse Dunning-Kruger. Ernie could have smoothed the transitions Belichick failed to negotiate.

This 2024 draft and offseason is turning out to be one of the abject failures in the history of the league. The draft is 'Maybe you have a QB' and nothing else, and overpaying average players who weren't going anywhere, and if you had lost them, wouldn't have made a difference. Oh, and KJ Osborn. Holy ****.
I was discussing with some other guys that last year was such a failure in every way because the Krafts had no plan, other than to divest themselves of Bill. Bill ran the thing 100% of the way, and then, in his absence, people not qualified either were given control, seized control or resisted taking control. It created a vacuum. Wolf was there to scout players and get the coaching staff what they wanted. Clearly, the staff had zero clue what they were doing, which is why you have screw up after screw up wen it came to personnel. Wolf got little to no direction from the staff, Glazer and the Krafts, so essentially, he had to wing it, using the old analysis and scoring system to evaluate players. This year, he's got clear directions from an experienced staff and a new system.

That's my theory.

He knew how to select the correct OL talents for his scheme. He couldn't magically supply talent that was not there in the first place though. His genius was identifying talent and utilizing it like no other coach had. He also knew how to draft the talent he wanted, and hit more than missed unlike BB who drafted WR and typically missed.

Ernie's retirement cannot be understated. He was half of Bill's brain IMO.

Yes, but your theory is wrong, I'm afraid. That is Wolf's lame excuse and that of his apologists, and I can't see how anyone with an open mind could put it forward.

One obvious point is that Wolf's draft selections were terrible whatever system they had been put into. Also, apart from the atrocious draft, he actually brought in the most important coaches himself (his buddy AVP and the other offensive coaches) so, presumably, he would have known what system they would have in place. And his free agency acquisitions were also dreadful whatever system you would have used (Okarofor, Osborn and (gulp) Brissett).

Why is he still there? All the signs are that Wolf was brought in by Kraft as part of his "succession plan" for after Belichick. Wolf didn't work his way up through the Belichick ranks. If he weren't in Mr Kraft's pocket, he'd have been out on his ear as he deserves, instead of giving ****y press conferences about how he has "final say".

I'm not apologizing for the guy. I think he's a scout, not a GM. Bill was the GM and no one was prepared for his departure. Everything up to Vrabel's arrival is on Kraft. I believe he sat around, fat and happy, drunk on winning, until he made two moves;

The first was getting rid of Bill, which triggered Mayo's early ascension. Mayo had no network for coaches, and no coach worth a **** was going to come here, save for Bill O, who probably had felt some sort of loyalty to the Krafts or something. (or $$$) Mayo's job, first and foremost, was to not be Bill.

The second move was getting rid of Mayo and hiring Vrabel, who essentially fills the vacuum left by Bill's departure. With this move, RKK got rid of Glazer and secured Vrabel as the man in charge. Then Vrabel gives Wolf his new marching orders and we are where we are today. Kraft made it clear to Vrabel he didn't want to demote Wolf publicly, and Vrabel either agreed or acquiesced, but Vrabel brought in Cowden and Stretch as "his guys", leaving Wolf to deal with the media.

It's not hard to see IMO.

I believe Wolf and Mayo were on public record stating that post Bill, the team was a 3 year rebuild.
Seems this past week, Vrabel is saying similar
simply, the roster was a disaster
thanks Bill

OK good 3 year rebuild at least is totally real. Also we should not assume that Maye becomes a transcendental player because he was picked 3rd. He may just be a good or very good player but not elevate to Josh Allen's level.
Still hoping next year Vrabel's team can get more aggressive and stop dumping former high draft picks for nothing.

Bad drafting and free agent signings have KILLED this team and dug such a deep hole. Vrabel has 3 years to dig us out of the hole.

Maye is not going to be a top10 qb this year period. The OL and WR problems have not been fixed.

So don’t play the games?
