If he is placed on IR before cutdown, though, he's gone all 17, right?. Only if he's kept on the roster then IR-ed afterwards can he come back
Teams can designate 2 IR-to-return on cutdown day now.

Yep. This week is complicated.

Monday before league offices close: IR = done for the year
Tuesday before league offices close: Can use DTR on two players placed on IR
Wednesday before league offices close: IR = done for the year
After that: Can use DTR

Back when the Pats signed/claimed Woodhead, right after Kevin Faulk's injury, I remember Belichick saying that at that moment, something like "he was the best player not currently on a roster." So I'm guessing they have some people whose job it is to make lists of the players they might want and keep track of other team's rosters during cutdowns.
Isn't that the pro scouting department's job?

Packers are smart dealing for a Olineman on a team with so much depth.
I would be looking at Denver and Phillys o line tough.

Good. They shouldn’t keep anyone based upon draft status. If they don’t think they can be good contributors going forward they should be released.
Waived/Injured means that he's going to IR. It's a stupid f'in rule that they've had in place for more than 2 decades and it's prevent teams from "stashing".

Robinson will be on the IR and it has nothing to do with draft status.

I think part of the problems with this roster, at least on the OL, are the fact that the scheme has flip-flopped every year since 2021. They had the same scheme for forever through 2021, then in 2022 when McDaniels left, they drafted different types of players to fit the scheme Matt Patricia wanted to run.

Then in 2023 Patricia was gone, Kraft forced Bill O’Brien on Belichick, and they flipped back to a McDaniels-type scheme.

Then in 2024, BB and BOB are gone and Alex Van Pelt is the new OC who moved back to a zone scheme like Patricia was trying to implement.

Now in 2025, McDaniels is back again and they swap back, again. So there’s just no consistency at all for years.

We see the same on the DL to a degree but 2025 is really the first year that the scheme has changed there, so the damage is less severe.

No. That's the OLD rule. It was changed last year and further amended this year.

Teams may designate 2 players to put on IR at the time of cut-downs to be DTR. Those two players will count towards the 8 maximum IR-DTR that a team can have.

The O-Line blocking scheme that the Pats used for years was a Zone blocking scheme. But not the "Outside Zone" that Shanahan uses.

The problem with Patricia becoming the OC was that he didn't understand the "Outside Zone" concepts despite telling BB he could figure it out. It's why Bourne ended up in the dog-house with him. Because Bourne, as well as Trent Brown, had come from that scheme and knew that Patricia had no idea wtf he was doing. And said as much.

The other move that year that screwed the Pats was moving Brown to LT and Wynn to RT.

I have no idea what "scheme" Bob tried to implement. I thought he was more in-line blocking than Zone. All we really know is that his hand-picked coach, Klemm, exploded at Wolf and then Klemm was banished for "health reasons". That left Yates / Ferentz to try and pick up the slack.

The only problem with your thought process, Ross, is that neither Wallace nor Robinson had experience in the Outside Zone scheme and were not fits for it. So, if that's what they were going for, then there was a tremendous lack of communication between the Scouting Dept, the Dir of Player Personnel, and the Coaching Staff.

Third times the charge.

Losing Dante Scar was the 2nd greatest loss for the Pats after Brady.

Brady could make it so an OL looked pretty good by not holding on to the ball and getting his throws away quickly. I recall when Strange was drafted and how he was adept at running Shanahan's "outside zone" OL concept.

This.

Probably the best OL coach ever. Certainly the best assistant coach the Pats have ever had and they’ve had some great ones.
Third was losing McDaniels,
Fourth was losing Pioli,
Fifth was losing Flores.

Dual-threats also have to know how to preserve themselves for the long haul. Don't bust out routine runs. Always slide, unless there's no other option. Head out of bounds, unless there's no other option. Only run when the lane is wide open. Make sure you know when to just dump the ball off rather than take unnecessary hits. The NFL season is tough on the body. If you are making yourself a target 100 percent of your snaps, you are not going to make it to the Super Bowl.

Last year was the first time a primary run QB won a Super Bowl. But they did it by treating the QB like a RB and spelling him with heavy doses of Saquan.
He was allowed to be reckless with that ability to run last season under the YMCA coaching staff. He played hero ball at times. Look for Drake to have designed runs.. if it's 3 and 2 sure go for the 2 or 3 yards get what you can go out of bounds or get right down. I feel Drake has learned this. McDaniels was raving about how smart Drake is and how he already has a strong grasp of the play book.
