And Sit correctly and not overrun the zones... he did that some last year cost us a game.
Last year was a completely different system… West Coast… and this seems to be a case of your overactive imagination.

The only true locks at WR in my amateur opinion are
- Diggs (money)
- Douglas (production)
- Williams (draft status)

Every other receiver is still auditioning for a role.
Third year guy Boutte: who made a decent jump with amateur OC & HC last year says hello.

True but he’s had a lot of drops, as I said in the day 1 Vikings thread, he gets open a lot and the ball is either overthrown or he drops it.
A downfield threat is more valuable than a slot receiver.

I have been following this off-season very closely, and I watch the podcasts nightly, and haven’t seen any report of William’s consistently dropping passes. I have heard that the quarterbacks were consistently throwing poor passes to him, and that he has dropped a couple of catchable balls, but that’s it. So I googled Kyle williams dropping passes and nothing came up for it other than a pre draft report that drop rate was a little over 5%, which is fine imo. So is this an actual issue? Or is it just another example of Patriot fans hyperventilating over any morsel of negativity they can find?

Kyle Williams is an excellent prospect, and fans need to realize that it’s going to take time for all of these rookies to adapt to the pro game. They are going to make mistakes, that doesn’t make them busts, it just means they are rookies. Those who can’t handle that should just give up watching football and devote those hours to watching baseball, which is so boring that you will never get overexcited and start hyperventilating.

I love having the podcasts so that we can get more thorough information in the offseason, but people need to realize that making mistakes in practice actually isn’t the END OF THE WORLD!!!

Agreed, haven’t heard this ^ at all. Based on all reports Williams is way advanced for a rookie at this point.

The negative nancy is still strong among Patriot nation. Two decades and a fistful of rings can’t dull its edge.

A downfield threat is more valuable than a slot receiver.

That depends upon the receivers. Edelman and Welker were far more valuable to the Patriots than anyone not named Randy Moss. It also depends upon the game plan, as we saw against Seattle, and the overall strategy, as guys who can consistently move the chains are more important for a ball control eat up clock approach.

You proved my point. Pick the Pats best slot guy, Edelman or Welker, and the Pats best downfield threat, Moss. Which would you pick first? The downfield threat guy.

Gee, I don’t know One, Edelman or Welker or the greatest receiver in NFL history. Name one other receiver they had during the Welker Edelman reign who was more valuable than they were. There were dozens and dozens of them, and the fact that you can only name the GOAT disproves your point, unless of course you can name the others who were more valuable?

You could of course repost your statement to say that Randy Moss is more valuable to a team than any slot guy is, that I would agree with.

On Efton Chism and what initially drew them to him and if he’s lived up to the expectations at this point:

“Yeah, absolutely. Efton is a guy who went to two All-Star games. He went to the Hula Bowl and then the East-West. No one really guarded him in either. That’s when he came on my radar a little bit. Our scouts obviously liked him as well. But I didn’t watch him until after those All-Star games and definitely thought he was a draftable talent. Maybe didn’t have the 40-yard dash that was applicable to get him drafted, but the games played between the white lines, and he’s been a phenomenal worker. Everyone talks about how he’s an overachiever and this and that. I see that differently. I think he’s got tremendous football instincts. I think he’s tremendous at the top of the route, and his play strength for a shorter guy is very good. We’re excited about what he can bring to our team.”

Was listening to NFL Replay on Sirius in the car this afternoon, while they were discussing camp standouts.

Efton Chism III was mentioned and Christian Fauria absolutely creamed his jeans raving about his short area quickness, ability to get open, and catching everything thrown his way. Fauria predicted that Chism will have a fantastic performance this season as a third down specialist.

It got me thinking about how discussion on here seeing Pop and Chism as competing for snaps and wondering whether they might turn out to be complementary. Wondered what Josh might do if he started by stacking the two of them. That had me thinking it would be interesting to see that stack flanked by Hollins out wide, with Henry at TE and Henderson in the backfield…

This may be a better offense than we expect. OL wouldn’t need to hold blocks very long. Question I see is whether Maye can read that fast.

Welker and Edelman were certainly complementary before Edelman's injury in 2009. [When he broke his arm, it was on a 2-WR set with Welker.]

I think that Douglas has more speed while Chism has more quickness, so they should be, too.

Do you know which show/roughly what time? I'd love to hear this.

I heard Fauria say that.
Next step and question is how banged up is Chism?

For a rookie, Chism is miles ahead of where Edelman was. Obviously the converted QB from Kent st had a lot to learn but to be compared to Edelman or Kupp this early is promising. I honestly don’t know if its Douglas or Chism at this point, but I do know it’s a good problem to have. May the best player get the reps.

It was NFL Rewind, which is Fauria and Zig Fracassi. Think it started at 2 this afternoon and the segment about camp standouts was 30 to 45 minutes later.

Fauria was over the moon about Chism.

When I did search it stated he had the most drops in Training Camp, the podcasts I’ve listened to have detailed his drops. I like Kyle and think he’s going to help our offense a lot. I agree with you on the podcasts, I walk five miles every day listening to them.
