How does Howie keep doing this? Metchie to Eagles.

Howie Roseman is one of the best GMs in the NFL.

Having said that Houston is no slouch either. They are a team to watch in 2025.
He's in that exalted space such that if he does something, you almost have to pay attention. In this case, he must be seeing something I or most Houston folks ain't seeing, cuz he's looked ordinary if not kinda lousy.

Eagles will repeat. Another cake schedule for them. No real competition from either conference. Howie is the best GM in all of organized sports. Pats should be taking notes.

Philly must think that they can develop Metchie.

25 years old and only 2 seasons in.

We are talking about a 5th and 6th round pick swap and Harrison Bryant who had 9 catches last year? Granted that is more than Polk is worth, but that is still nearly a nothing trade. No reason to see anything in Metchie, the Eagles gave up close to nothing to get him.

AJ Brown has a hammy. Might not start week one. Thus the trade. At least that's what my Philly crew tells me.

Metchie was a total bust in Houston. Philly's taking a flyer on him.
My guess is Devonta Smith advocated for him as did Hurts.
They are pry telling them he is just getting back to being healthy and hasn’t hit his prime yet.

It’s a low floor high ceiling move.

No prob, it’ll be incomplete

OMG I said not long ago the Texans and Bucs have the deepest WR's rosters. I was watching Metchie closely: we should have been on that. Watch him become a weapon with the Eagles...he will be an afterthought Receiver in that Offense.
“Afterthought” is now a synonym for “weapon”?

A decent flyer, yes. High ceiling, no. Eddie Royal was likely the best case outcome for Metchie if he panned out in Houston, and Royal was merely an ancillary WR. Metchie was likely getting cut, as Nico Collins, Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins, and Jaylin Noel were all locks, and he got beat out by Justin Watson for the 5th spot. Plus they’re keeping Tank Dell and have to IR him so that’s 6 already.

Metchie is worth taking a flyer on for the Eagles since they have no proven depth at WR after their top 3, but there’s no space for him here so no point in getting flustered over it. The role he plays on offense is already occupied by better options here.

Evidently Howie is so good that he got Mechie for nothing since there's been nothing said about what the Eagles had to give up to get him.

Seems if it's less than a 4th it's seems like a good risk

Edit: After checking the internet, it looks like they gave up serviceable rotational TE (Harrison Bryant) and a 5th round pick getting back a 7th.

Evidently Mechie didn't look like he was going to get a lot of snaps in Houston, and his boys on the eagles lobbied to add him since evidently the Eagles don't have a lot behind their top 3 guys and he was considered a 2nd round talent in his draft.

It will be interesting how the Eagles respond in 2025 being hunted again. The Lions and 49ers will be coming back relatively healthy, so their path isn't going to be easy this year. Packers underachieved and I think it's only a matter of time before they make some noise.
49ers??….healthy?? They may literally be the most injured team in the league right now besides the Chargers.

Metchie was a “nice” prospect coming out of college, but he hasn’t done anything in the NFL (I’m aware of his situation). This is nothing to be worked up or upset over. He’s mid; if that…

Is he better than Polk and Baker the answer is a resounding yes.

I mean that's not exactly a high bar to pass. But Metchie last year when Texans WRs were getting injured (Diggs tearing his ACL, Collins missing games, Dell missing their last 4-5 games) didn't take advantage of it. Pretty much Mechie being a bust is why Caseiro double dipped on Higgins and Noel

and really I don't see any reason why Pats would trade for him if the WRs are gonna be Diggs, Boutte, Douglas, Williams, Hollins and Chism (and Bourne if they go with 7)

Hollins is a much more accomplished NFL WR, had a sneaky effective year last year (the Buffalo fans loved him), has deep-threat abilities, is good blocking wideout and is a great locker room vet. Bourne may not be in their plans this year and you don’t want Diggs being the only seasoned vet mentoring a young WR crew. Sorry to break it to you, but he is set to play a prominent role in the offense, at least to start the season.
