Backup QB is widely considered the second most important player on the team.Exactly we saw in the game on Friday, Willams had 2 steps on his man in end zone and Dobbs found him late.
We may need a update at QB 2.
If we just would of signed my binkie as a UDFA Tanner McKee we would of been in great shape and he would of beat out Mac in camp.
Have to say Mayes fumbles or a bit of a concern.
I’ll reserve my judgement for Week 4.
I think by then we should see what Maye is and how he has improved.
But all of a sudden I have some concern.
Agreed. Add the lack of a blocking TE and the situation is more fraught with danger. Fraught with danger, folks.Really bad news if Bryant is out, I really liked him vs Was
He looks a bit heavy, but seemed to have the strength necessary to play at this level.
We are very thin at OL, Moses is kinda of unknown commodity given his TC presence, center is a bit of question mark generally (Personally I'd give Wilson more time there, hopefully fixing any snap problems) but as things stand, our whole left side are composed of rookies.
We are all very grateful for the new coaching staff, which is fair, but honestly the castle that we have protecting our offense feels like sand, not even glass
Don't shoot the massenger
Good point about the complexity of Josh’s system Mayes is trying to learn at 22. The other two QB’s in his draft class that had good success last year, Jason Daniels and Bo Nix, are almost 2 1/2 years older. I’m excited that Mayes is doing as well as he is at 22.Maye’s fumble was of no concern to me, I once witnessed Brady try to throw a pass backwards and over his head, and that was when he was a seasoned vet. QB’s will always make mistakes trying to make a play, it’s the nature of the position. Even great players do stupid ****, it’s whether they learn from it or become mistake repeaters that matters most, and coaches in every sport repeat that mantra over and over. Maye will make more bad plays, and more mistakes, that’s just reality, what matters is how much he cuts them down in coming seasons. And from everything we hear his coaches love him, believe he’s a hard worker and a guy who constantly strives to get better. So I’m not worried about Mayes mistakes, he’s a 22 year old learning one of the most complex systems in football. It be will take years to master it, and we will see steps forward and back throughout his career, even when he hasn’t mastered, as even Brady had bad games over the second decade of his career, and he was THE GOAT!
An all new offense and a crapload of new players…they have a lot of work to do to get up to speed with Josh’s offenseAfter the shaky, dare I say ****ty performance by the passing game against Washington, it’s a bit disappointing to hear that they came out and crapped the bed in practice. They looked and sound completely out of sync. No rhythm. We might be in for more growing pains than some of us were ready for. I would really like that game 4 of preseason back right now. Let’s see what Mc’d and Co. have in store for Flores.
Yeah, I’m not afraid to say I’m concerned about Maye. He followed up a shaky game performance with a ****ty practice. I know we have to be patient, it’s a brand new offense for him, but you’re supposed to be getting better as the practices move on, not worse. I know he was really good in the joint practices vs Washington, but after his final play against them, a red zone INT, he’s been meh at best.Saying it again….the elephant in the room is Drake and the WR’s not in sync with Josh’s offense and will be a big issue during the regular season. Josh, Drake and the WR’s need to spend the next 2 weeks spending all their time going over routes, timing and chemistry and nothing but that.
Baker is developing nicely and maybe Able to replace a ST only player, plus fill it at WR and make some impact type Plays."What Efton Chism just did in practice gives me goosebumps." - John Madden probably.
Roster lock based on everything we've seen, can't let him get picked up elsewhere. You can find bums like Polk and Baker in every draft.
If this is his starting point, just imagine when he's got the routes even smoother and chemistry with Maye...
That preseason game might not seem like a big pressure moment, but to an UDFA rookie fighting for their life, it would have been the most pressure he's ever been under... and his response was to ball out.. we need guys that can perform in big moments and this kid clearly has the stones for it, in what was his biggest test of his life. Throw him in with the 1st team next game.
That being said Chism has a value that can’t be undersold.Baker is developing nicely and maybe Able to replace a ST only player, plus fill it at WR and make some impact type Plays.
I would say he probably makes the team as slot WR 2 behind Douglas. Thats if his good performances continue. Remember this offense with Edelman and Amendola on the field at the same time ? Douglas & Chism in the field at the same time would be interesting. That being said Chism has a value that can’t be undersold.
He’s a UDFA who is just making plays, making blocks has the trust of his coaches and teammates.
I’d like to see him start getting snaps with the 1’s.
Imagine if Baker winds up as the new Slater ? Baker adds better WR skills, but man, Slater was FAST coming out of college.Baker is developing nicely and maybe Able to replace a ST only player, plus fill it at WR and make some impact type Plays.
Have a feeling they might go with 7 wr where hollins is a hybrid ( TE-WR) and then 3 running backs and 2 tight ends and a hybrid TE- Fullback ( Westover ) . This way they can fit in good chunk of people .Imagine if Baker winds up as the new Slater ? Baker adds better WR skills, but man, Slater was FAST coming out of college.
