2025 Red Sox Thread

“Same Time Next Year” - Every year, the Sox look “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” two weeks prior to the trade deadline. Then management is petrified to make any significant changes to this apparent juggernaut. Then with the deadline behind them our boys with their mission accomplished (still in Boston), will go 2 wins / 8 looses and fall out of contention post haste. It was great to see them pick up a pitcher (Maye) who’s already (recovered from not one but TWO Tommy John surgeries!

So according to Chris Cotillo, Henry imposed a budget on Breslow.
Are you f'n kidding me?
The Sox picked up an extra $200 million when they dumped Devers.
They are not like the Celtics who have been in serious financial trouble.
They were one quality starting pitcher away from having a real shot at winning it all.
All the promises about going all in.
Absolutely outrageous if this is true.
**** John Henry

Eff that ownership

I stopped following baseball in 99 but I was disappointed when John Henry didn't invite Curt Schilling to the 20th reunion of the 2004 team because Schilling is a conservative. That told me all I needed to know about Henry's pettiness.

I'm sorry but either someone has fed you a load of BS or the pettiness is yours. Schilling publicly outed Wakefield's cancer struggle after both Wake and his wife worked at keeping it private for their kid's sake. In doing so Schilling became persona non grata with many of his former teammates. Schilling was invited but declined supposedly out of deference to Wakefield's kids and not wanting to face the former players that were attending. It's sad how both the supposedly strong willed 'conservatives' and their 'liberal' opposites are so quick to make something political and invent offense where none was given.

This Independent remembers when honor among men mattered. Schilling was invited, he wasn't there not because of his politics but because he knew he'd failed the human decency test and elected to hide from the consequences.

I have no idea what to think about this Red Sox team. No really big names (Bergman and Story?), but they keep surprising. They are 4 games back in the East, and in sole possession of the 1st WC. It might collapse on them, but it does not look like that will happen.

And the Red Sox have the highest rated minor league system in baseball with multiple top rated pitching prospects ready for 2026 AND 2027. They have two left handed pitchers as big as Randy Johnson in the minors, massive guys that are really impressive. The Red Sox analytics are working for stocking the minor leagues.

Roman is simply going to end up the best batter in the League. I've never seen such maturity in a young player - the way he doesn't expand the strike zone with two strikes and keeps fouling off pitches until he gets something hittable is a thing of wonder.

Story has been incredible of late - plus fielding and good hitting.

They are going to need the money from the Devers salary dump to extend Bregman, but the team is absolutely better with him instead of Devers at third.

Yup. There's a reason he's the #1 prospect on the planet

They're fun to watch and they play hard. A bunch of dirt dogs.
They deserve better than John Henry.
With all the young talent currently on the team and all the top prospects in the minors, they have a chance to become a dominant team for a long time. They have one if the best managers in the sport and a great coaching staff.
As long as ownership doesn't f it up.

The Red Sox are #3 in revenue and #22 in payroll.

F them. They have plenty of cash to spend on whatever is they need.

Bregman is really good at 3rd. Haven't watched much but what little I saw has been impressive. He routinely makes plays that Devers never would.

I see some things now that I need to see to think there might be something there. Starting to remind me of the 2018 team a little bit. They have a lot of awful good players and the pitching is rounding into form. I think their hitting approach has changed a little bit and they are (thanks Rice) driving more balls instead of trying to hit them out all the time.
