PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 4 - July 26

If it happened that Campbell, Henderson, Williams, and Wilson were all picked by the Pats in 1st round, would we be happy with what we are seeing so far?

The best players pop early, and it seems like our new additions are off to a really impressive start.
I think Woodson will pop as well before it's said and done.

I’m not at training camp (I live in NYC), but some of my thoughts from the reporting:

Rookies are playing well, I really loved our draft, and it seems like they are good fits.

Henderson is going to be a problem for the opponents. I saw several people say he was this year’s Jahmyr Gibbs, and I felt that wasn’t an accurate comparison. Gibbs is more shifty, and a great receiving back, Henderson uses his straight line speed. But I see that the Pats are using Henderson A LOT in the passing game, so now I get the comparison. Hopefully they can get him 15+ touches a game. He’s truly a threat to go the distance in n every play.

Williams has that deep speed, he’s going to have to be accounted for. While teams will be chasing Diggs and Douglas all over the field, they’ll have to account for Williams’ speed. And despite not being big, seems to be a good contested catch guy.

Supposedly Campbell has been solid, hopefully he fixes our LT issue. I think he’s gonna be really good. I’m happy we took him in the draft.

Jared Wilson supposedly has been really good filling in at C and Guard. He’s very talented and athletic. I can see him getting a lot of playing time this year.

Hearing good things about safety Woodson, plus we got our new kicker and place kicker in the draft, among others. Just a really good draft.

Love what I’m hearing about Maye. Not every practice is gonna be perfect, but he’s learning a new offense, a becoming an excellent leader, and doesn’t turn 23 until late August. As exciting he was as a rookie, he had some things to clean up. He seems to be making a nice 2nd year jump.

Lots of positives so far. And having a good coaching staff, just the cherry on top.
Agreed the early returns from the rookie class sounds very good!

I think we need to caution that it's still before pads go on. And they are probably getting so many reps so quickly because there is still a lack of overall talent. Hopefully it's not just by default and that they are truly filling these holes....so far sounds like they are.

Thoughts.

The quiet day for Kyle Williams is interesting... this really should have been his day to shine as they went deeper. But still have high hopes for him. Diggs didn't make a lot of noise either today and it was a bit uneven for him. So the guys you'd hope be our top 2 WRs didn't have great days. However seeing Diggs out there at all in 11 vs 11s is encouraging. Plus you know he isn't in top gear yet. It was mentioned he was being very casual in how he ran routes. Usually i'd hate that news, but not going full tilt yet is probably for the best.

Huge day by Pop. Really cementing that #3 role. Right now the competition for the 4th spot is wide open between Boutte and Bourne. Until Hollins actually gets out there i don't think he should be considered on the roster. I think he will probably make it, but he has to earn it. If he can't get healthy soon i think we should really question if he should be here.

Bourne IMO to stay needs to solidly be the #4 guy. Not just kind of be, solidly be. If it is close between him, Boutte, Hollins and Chism.... Let him walk 100%. No point paying his massive contract unless he will see sizable snaps. Chism finally gets a short stint with the 1s. But not enough time to do anything with it. Considering the Hollins and Polk situation I am surprise they having given him a chance with how much he has been dominating the the 3rd team. He also was paid a ton as an UDFA is guaranteed cash. It almost feels like they are intentionally keeping him out of the WR depth chart discussion to make sure room stays open for Bourne/Hollins/Polk to make it. Conspiracy theory much?

Glad to hear good things about Campbell, but again need to wait for the pafs to come on. This DL should be very good and i expect them to give most OLs trouble. But you want to hear good things at least about Campbell. Wilson may be the most underrated story from camp. We'd like him to play center... but what if he comes in and plays guard at a high level? It be nice to have a guy who can play both spots well and then upgrade whichever turns out to be the biggest issue with solid play. Plug the worse hole.

Henderson seems like a menace, He's already the best back on this team.

On D we are hearing good things. Constant pressure. Spillane being a beast. Woodson seems at home with the 1s. Landry having a very good camp. No Davis but not super worried about it yet. Overall very solid play by the group and key back ups all around. The 2 let downs for me are lack of news on Farmer and Swinson. Two guys i was very excited about going in. Still time but mostly crickets.

Pass protection leaky according to other reports…what was it fellas?
Looks like they practiced long passes and longer development plays, so naturally we had:

More sacks.
More incompletes.
More big splash plays.

Tough to tell much without pads on and no real run-blocking, etc.. That starts Monday, so hopefully we'll start to get a better sense there.
Yes. Pass rushers generally have advantage without pads and no run threat.

Barmore, Williams, White, Landry are going to be a handful for any line, let alone one with a rookie LT.

Some insight on why the media doesn't post more videos during practice:

I think we hit on quite a few picks this draft! Loving the energy by the team. Vrabel was the right hire and I was on team vrabel when others wanted Ben Johnson! Cant wait to see what happens Monday when theyre in pads!
