Gonzo at #6. Davis also one of 29 players that received votes.

"I think Gonzo is the next great one," a veteran NFL assistant said. "Skills, patience, length. He's the closest thing to Pat [Surtain II]. Smooth, big athlete, travels a lot, can matchup against the best guy."

arguably best player on the team

He’s either #1 or #2…no other CB besides Surtain is better (if not equal). Surtain had a dominant pass rush in front of him & another excellent CB across from him. Gonzo didn’t..
Gonzo needs better exposure. Playing on a terrible team got him no notice. Playing on a much improved team with an improved pass rush and Davis at the other corner will be like night and day for his recognition. He will be going from a dark alley to the spotlight on a Broadway stage. Next year he may well be recognized as one of the top two or three corners in the league.

As soon as i saw Sauce at 5, the whole list became suspect
Sauce benefits from NY media hype, plus a lack of any other hype worthy NFL players in the Big Apple.

sauce is a good player... Gonzo just needs to get off to a faster start this year and he should over take him in the rankings...

sauce just signed an extension... look at those numbers to get an idea of what we should be paying Gonzo next year... and we should be extending him as soon as possible...

$120million for four years.
$85million guaranteed.
“Team friendly” according to overthecap.

Thoughts on Sauce Gardner's $120.4 Million Contract Extension with the Jets | Over the Cap

im good with a team friendly deal for Gonzo too lol
Who wouldn’t be? Lol

His rookie contract runs through ‘27 if they pick up the option ( duh). If he gets a similar four year extension he’d be signed through ‘31.

Davis is also signed through ‘27. He’s getting old enough that extending him may not be easy, if he wants one last payday. But he’s made himself decent coin with this contract so if the team chemistry is good and they’re looking like legit contenders he might be willing to re-up for a good post-season shot.

IOW hopefully our top corners will be set for a few years.

Yeah, the fifth year option is nice to have... But he is eligible for an extension next spring, just like sauce was this year... We should take advantage of that... It engenders warm fuzzy feelings with the player and Will save the team millions in the long run...

To put this little mind **** exercise into focus consider this.

When ESPN did their top 10 DT's a while back they didn't have Milton Williams (who we made the highest paid DT in the league) in the top 10. Nor was he among the 5 guys they had as honorable mentions. NOR was he among the 6 guys they had as "also receiving votes".

So, the guy we signed to be the rock of our defense isn't even an afterthought based on this "top 10" list. He isn't even in the top 21. So clearly, we made an enormous mistake in this signing ... or at least according to ESPN and their 'experts'

OR it shows just how arbitrary and useless these lists actually are. So, if I can't be bothered to care about Williams' omission from the DT list, why would I get excited about Gonzo's #6 ranking on the CB list. Just sayin'...

The poor team could just as easily have helped Gonzo as much as it hurt him. If you were playing us last year, why would you even bother throwing at him? The rest of the team sucked. Couldn't stop the run, no one else really could cover. If I was an opposing QB of course you have to throw at him a few times because he's going to be on your best receiver, but I'd have just told the QB to not even bother. Just throw at the guys who suck instead.

He is the Brian Urlacher of today's NFL.....without a doubt the single most overrated player in the game.....a lot of sizzle, but still just a well marinated flank steak
