The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

If she were as savvy a PR professional as she seems to think she is, she'd know that at UNC, everything is subject to APRA.

The bottom line is BB could do an excellent job coaching these guys and they'll still be .500

And while the allure of playing for an NFL coach will still be of interest to guys with their eye on getting to the NFL, one can just imagine that recruiters of other teams are going to raise the possibility of whether Belichick has lost it.

That could lead to some long term mediocre recruiting no matter how good Belichick is as a coach - and the boosters know it.

Early over/under wins totals favor Navy having more wins than UNC.

Didnt Indy have a ton of cap space tied up in offense and could not afford defense? Injuries got them too.
It didn't excuse the fact Polian couldn't draft after 2003. We talk about Bill's bad picks, but Polian ran that Colts team into the ground. Their main weakness was the defense for years, but he continually ignored it. Letting Mike Peterson and Marcus Washington go were big mistakes. Interior line, LB and their secondary were always weak links.
IMO he'd trade down and go with JJ McCarthy or Bo Nix who are more polished.
I would agree, unless Bob Kraft said otherwise. If Bill were to return, one of the conditions could've been Maye had to be the pick.
If BB had built the foundation for Dynasty 1.0 here and not Parcells then I'd consider BB to be a greater GM here. IMO
We can't have it both ways giving credit to Parcells, but not to BB. Had BB not selected Tom Brady, we're not even having this conversation.

Polian had his good moments after 03... Bob Sanders was drafted in 04 in the 2nd round... that's a really good value pick. So was Antoine Bethea in 06 in the 6th round who became an impact safety. Booger McFarland helped their Super Bowl team out stopping the run.

Gotta credit him for picking Peyton over Leaf. If he picked wrong then that would be severe damage to his legacy.

Possible. It's just hard to see that because Bill doesn't have a history of picking a raw project with upside as his franchise QB and working with him. (Brady was not his franchise QB in 2000). He likes the polished guys a lot better. He didn't think much of Josh Allen of all people in his rookie year and that's because Allen was another talented but still raw QB.

No we wouldn't but Parcells built the foundation, drafting the heart and core of that defense for the SB runs in the early 00's. Law, Milloy, Bruschi, Johnson and I think Willie is in that group. Unless I'm remembering that wrong and it was Grier that was picking the groceries. BB added to that group for the 01 run with guys like Cox, Phifer, Terrell Buckley, Tebucky and the rest.

We keep getting different stories for 1996, but Grier was in charge from 1997-1999. As much as he did such a terrible job during that time, he was the deciding factor in BB drafting Tom Brady. Rehbein brought Tom Brady to BB's attention, but without Grier's connection to Lloyd Carr, BB probably doesn't draft him. I think this was noted in the Documentary.

My bad, it's 7 > 6*

* had the greatest QB of all time

Lmao. Bill dissed the Maye pick the moment it happened. There was zero probability that he would have taken him.

He wasn't going to pump the tires of the team that just fired him. He didn't diss him either he just talked about his strengths and weaknesses. This said absolutely nothing about what he would have done if he was still the HC.

Bottom line is we needed a QB and most evaluators pro and media widely agreed there was a difference between the top 3 and the rest. Many teams wanted to trade up no one even considered moving down. And to just assume anything different over one 60 second quote is rediculous.

Based on how it actually went down I think those 3 QBs were going top 3 no matter what. And I don't think anyone was trading it away.

BB was on a Pat McAfee show and was told to give positive and negative critiques. It is entertainment. Amazing how guys can't understand entertainment after listening to Felger and Mazz purposefully add criticism to drive their ratings. Really basic stuff and it continues to fool people.
