Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

This new CBA is killing the NBA. Forcing teams with multiple star players to sign them to contracts that forces the team onto an onerous tax apron is BS. Any team with multiple star players approaching the end of their contract has to jump onto at least the first apron. After that, it's a ****-show, with teams having to decide if they want to go "all in" or just kinda float along in the flotsam of the league,

In the old days. you could use the Bird exception to sign your star player and keep the nucleus together for a run at the trophy, Not any more.

Porzingas traded for Garbage.

As I was saying…

And just like that the Celtics are under the apron

This will be nuts. New owner wants his own team I guess

Ah, Porzingis.... you played very well for us....

In both the games where you were 100% healthy....

That's now, right? No need to ship off anyone else. The center position is still to be addressed though. Is there room now for a Kornet contract?
I believe they’re about $5M under the 2nd apron when both trades are finalized. That doesn’t seem like a realistic number to keep Kornet, but there’s probably more moves coming.

I love KG and he was a great player.
Duncan was better and it's not close.
Duncan wasn't flashy or played with the attitude that drove KG.. it's a toss up for me.. Duncan played in the paint KG could play on the perimeter and in the paint.. KG helped revolutionize the 7 footer who could shoot, pass, handle the ball away from the basket. Duncan in his own right was dominant a shot that no one could block.

Niang has about 3 years, 24M on his contract, whereas Porzingis has 1 year, 30M

So the total contract liability is pretty similar but the annual amount helps the Celtics a lot. Of course, they lose a guy with the potential (if healthy, even though unlikely) to be a very good player and receive a depth chart guy in return.

All in all, I see where these teams like this deal. KP is off the books in one year. C’s get cap relief and can absorb an 8M cap hit to Niang even if he sucks.

Makes a lot more sense than the insane Blazers trade, which the Celtics won hands down.

They have to, you realize that right? The penalties are incredible if they don't get under the second apron at least. Don't blame the new ownership, blame the small market teams, Wyc and other ownership groups that couldn't put pen to paper fast enough on this CBA.

It killed the NBA imo. Someone said it best, NBA socialism. Never works.
Yes, and it really only makes sense to take that kind of 2nd apron damage if you’re really going all in with championship roster. The Tatum injury changes everything. I don’t know if they’d have made these trades with a healthy Tatum. Maybe, maybe not. But now it’s a no brainer.

Yup. Will Tatum ever fully recover?

JB better be next and ride the lottery train for a year. Fireworks next off season.
Edit: Word is it’s for Jonathan Kuminga. Surprised he lasted that long on the GSW

No way to know for sure, but then he's already in unique territory (almost no one has surgery as soon after the injury as he did).

That account is labeled "PARODY Account."

And the source on that Xitter post hasn't posted in ~3 years.

I think it has a lot to do with the flopping Thunder team. SGA in particular is really terrible to watch when he's around the hoop. His technique of trapping a defenders arm under his arm and then acting as if the defender did it is not a great look for the NBA. The refs gave the Thunder every possible break in this series. Have you seen the videos of Pacers' players repeatedly being shoved out of bounds? OKC fouling players with no call when they called it on the other end? Phantom fouls on the Pacers? It was really bad.
I agree with that but "hate" is harsh.

The late 80s early 90s Pistons were hated but the reasons were clear as day.
