OT: Brock Purdy gets paid

This I agree with. He should be upset. Frankly, they haven't exactly drafted well the last few years. But that wouldn't matter if the HC knew how to close a SB.

As for Purdy, it's definitely an overpay imo. But it's the QB market these days. Purdy is a good QB. They aren't easy to find. Teams are in a no win situation.
It's a weird spot. Since Shanny became HC they made the SB twice and the NFCCG twice. Nearly every time they missed the playoff it was the result of a QB issue. 2017 they didn't have a QB at all and traded for Jimmy G mid season and only were able to play him the last 5 games. 2018 Jimmy got injured and was out for the season by week 3. 2020 the Niners led the league with players on IR including Jimmy again along with Bosa.

Last year the QB wasn't injured but the team was overall once again decimated at damn near every level.

So it's kind of a hard thing to judge. Half the time his team just goes to hell on injuries and when they don't they are either in the NFCCG or SB. And let's be real, the teams they lost to were the Chiefs, Rams, and Eagles. All teams that had been battle tested and in multiple Super Bowls over the last 6 or so years.

It's not far fetched to think if they didn't have injury issues half the time that one of these years Shanahan probably would have gotten a ring. Hell they probably should have in 2019 and Jimmy choked

Why nfl teams pay players before their contract is over is beyond me.

Do you think Jerruh would have paid Dax all that cash if he would have known he's Mr glass?

I need to go work for nfl teams and their contract negotiations.

Brock... youre a good qb surrounded by mega talent... you have a year left on your contract.

Here's many millions of dollars before we even see how this season is going to shape up.

49ers are going to stink again.

Purdy is a good qb on a declining team...

Brady should have gone to the 49ers after the superbowl win in Tampa.

Brady would have had another superbowl. Purdy not so much.

Easiest schedule in the league almost guarantees them 10 wins. That might be enough to win that division.

I believe it has to do with net present value of discounted future cash flows, and stuff like that. Plus evaluation of market risk in the changing landscape of the NFL and team dynamics. If you disagree please explain.

Agents across the NFL are wildly enthusiastic!

So you’re saying the Niners should restart their QB search after they let Purdy play out his contract and leave in free agency next year?

That’s really not about extending him before his contract expires, as your post purports to suggest, it’s really that you think the Niners should cheap out and roll the dice at QB trying to draft a unicorn. Thats a good question, and I think there’s a whole discussion to be had around that strategy, but it deserves its own thread. So I’m going to go start that one.

Hell yeah, LFG we need to get that thread rocking! I'm excited. I love me a good unicorn thread. Between the folks that believe in unicorns and embrace rainbows and sunshine and the ones that are willing to kill anything that even remotely resembles a unicorn just to destroy all hope there's always some good old fashioned mayhem and bloodshed to be had.

As the father of 5 boys I'm an atavistic primeval sort. Maximus understood...

Purdy doesn't have what it takes to win ****.

But I'm glad they gave him all that cash.

I need to bookmark this thread to poop on you guys who think you should give a "good" qb that can't win a superbowl... a massive contract.

I say Purdy is gone within 3 to 5 years.

49ers blow.
