Seth Wicksham is writing a new book about QB prospects from High School to Pro's and it goes into detail how Caleb Williams didn't want to go to the Bears. I'm not surprised and I've brought this up before that more top prospects should find ways to avoid crap franchises. Long story short, his Dad knew Chicago was a place where QB's die, didn't have the coaching in place and the contracts aren't good for rookies. Caleb wanted to go to the Vikings, but knew the Bears weren't going to trade him there. His Dad contacted Archie Manning to see how he got Eli out of SD. GM Ryan Poles told them they are drafting Williams no matter what.

This isn't going to end well in Chicago if they disappoint this season.

The Curse of Walter Payton strikes again...

Been all down hill for Chicago since Ditka let the gimmick score in XX instead of going with WP...

The Bears draft raised eyebrows.

Nobody saw them taking TE first pick.

They surrounded him with “weapons” in 2024 even though their OL sucked. He ran for his life and he was already a kid prone to run around in the pocket for no reason.

They’ve shelled out trades and contracts to try to fix their line in 2025, we’ll see if it’s enough. I have my doubts. Loveland felt like kind of a stupid first round pick for them.

Whether the OL is better is questionable.

Loveland better be a good blocker.

Thuney is there now. He was solid in KC until the Eagles exposed him at LT. But, KC moving on makes you wonder about him.

Maybe the hire of Ben Johnson will help him.

Not as much as Vrabel will help the Pats.

I know before the draft I was concerned about his character/personality, and I preferred Maye and Daniels over him, in that order.

I have a buddy from Chicago.

He is excited for this season because of the new HC. Either the Bears blame the HC or GM for underachieving. I also was not enamored with Williams. Not a fan of USC QBs.

From what I've read from the brief ESPN piece...his dad sounds like he doesn't understand that the reason the NFL sustains and can keep paying out higher and higher contracts is because of the very things he's railing against, IE: the rookie cap.

1) I am not surprised the entitled brat from USC wanted his own way.
2) Ben Johnson could be the best thing that's happened to that kid.
3) Daniels, Maye, Nix and maybe JJM will be better than that kid regardless.

IMO the Thuney trade just felt like a "year early" type move - he's still good but move on from him a year or two before the decline, get some decent draft capital and save a lot of cash. He is a good guard but I don't think their problems in Chicago are really at guard anyway. Swapping Jenkins for Thuney is not moving the needle to a large degree on overall line performance.

I can see why he wouldn't want to go to the Bears. They have historically (well, modern historically) been a poorly managed franchise.

That said, he has no excuses. They really have given him everything. They aggressively rebuilt the o-line, they got him the offensive genius head coach that every team wanted, and most people feel they killed it in the draft. If he fails now, it is on him.

Disagree on Loveland, I think he’s going to be really good player, and they addressed the OL in free agency. I think their decision was between Loveland and Hampton.

I wasn't saying Loveland is a bad player, I was saying it seemed like a bad pick for their team.

I think weather also played a big role, I think Williams would much rather have go to a warm weather team or indoors.
