Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

The life of a Cleveland sports fan is a miserable one. Donovan Mitchell just got fouled on a 3 pointer, down 6 with 2 minutes left, and missed 3 FTs.

Indiana in east finals 2 years in a row.
Friggan Indy vs NYK. Yuk

What happens to salary cap when a superstar is out for the year with an injury? Is there any relief so that they could bring in another costly player?
No

We are f-ed

Yeah I can root for Indy against the Knicks but I don’t really like that team. Maybe it will being back some Reggie Miller vs Knicks nostalgia.

My order of preference is now:

1. Celtics (but they’re likely getting bounced)
2. Warriors (see: Celtics)
3. Timberwolves
4. Nuggets
5. Pacers
6. Thunder
7. Knicks

Lol…I’m all for appreciating the fans and reminding them it was a good run but historical? Really? Will be remembered more for historical choke than accomplishment.

W/O Cs in, Nuggies for me. Then OKC as SGA seems likeable.

I am a renaissance man because I play senior softball and go to Planet Fitness 4 times a week. Not quite the stud you are, but hoping to measure up some day. And the Remy Martin XO is critical to the image - don't keep sharing my secret.

Cavs ownership fired a good HC to hire a new one, and still got bounced in the 2nd round

Yep. It's ok to thank fans for the support but their year had nothing historical about it. Franchise record is 66 wins and they've won a title both when LeFlop was there..

These are terrible, knee-jerk takes. This same “soft team” who can’t compete in the playoffs happens to be the reigning champions, coming off a 16-3 postseason run in 2024. They also have a top 3 defense known for its physical play and one of the best statistical offenses of all-time, built like many teams around a 3 point shot philosophy.
If you don't see that Mazzoula is a phony, narcissistic bullshitter who has no idea whatsoever what he's doing strategically or tactically, in-game or out, you are blind. "Step into the darkness" my ****ing ass. Give him a pair of pom poms if you want or some newsprint and a box of crayons, but get him out of his present role.

This is the softest team in the NBA: you know it, I know it,, and every opponent knows it.

I think we have to step back and remember how we got here. We had an excellent defensive minded coach in Ime.. obviously we know what happened.. Joe was an assistant who Brad felt comfortable elevating. He uses analytics rsgars the 3 point shot.. it got us a championship so he's not going to change his formula.

The defensive intensity is why the Cs are where they are at. Even down guys in past teams the defensive intensity never waned under doc or ime even Brad himself.. in alo of ways this team misses Marcus smart and what he brung as a leader and defensive mindset.

I do appreciate what this team did last year but I never fooled myself into thinking they were a great team by beating team after team missing their top scorer. We've gone over this before - they got pretty lucky last year with their opponents. The got the Heat minus Butler, the Cavs minus Mitchell & the Pacers minus Haliburton. It wasn't until they faced the Mavs with defenseless Doncic that they actually played a team with their top scorer for the whole series.

You play who you play. That was a hell of a team. This year too, but I think even as fans we are not fully appreciating the extent of how banged up this team is. Porziņģis has nothing to give, and that has a knock on effect with guys like Horford. Hauser being out is an underrated loss, and Brown is maybe 65%, but that dude has a lot of heart so I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a big game tonight.

Losses like these don’t even sting half as much as they used to. The 3 point play went from one of the most exciting plays to the bane of basketball existence. I’m just not a die hard any more I guess. Really does give a player an out if he’s looking to stray away from banging down low.
It's perfect for LeBrick.

History has shown us that the C's won't get relief. They didn't when a player dropped dead during the season and when a player died after being drafted. I don't see them getting anything from the NBA for Tatum's injury.

I can't put my finger on it, but this year's offense looks much different than last year's even with the same players. Anyone know why?

Some of you are quitting on the team now. Stay with them until the end.

I'm still going to the game tonight. They certainly can win. They've gotta stop with blowing leads!

I find the Pacers style on offense intriguing. As Triumph said in the Larry Bird thread "What I loved about watching Bird and the Celtics play was that they passed the ball around."

The Pacers are NOT the Bird Celtics, mind you. But the commitment to unselfishness, floor spacing, and passing the ball to an extreme is a bit of a throwback. A Rick Carlisle effect?

They...
play 9-11 rotation players
no hero ball
no megastar
10 players averaging double figures. Yes, 10.
constant motion, speed, tempo, pace
5 shooters on the floor
far and away the highest % of FGs that follow assists
far and away the most passes per possession
far and away the most assists per game

Regarding these last 2, here's a scatter plot showing you the extent to which the Pacers offense is a total outlier vs the rest of the NBA playoff teams
