Usually, it’s news that emerges without much warning. It pops up at a random time. We wait and we wonder and we check NFL Network listings for clues.

This year, nope. We all know. May 14. The full slate of 272 games.

Gotta give the NFL credit as they have turned a seasonal sport into a year round sport with lots of activity to keep us all interested..

I'm probably deciding between a road trip to New Orleans or Tennessee. We'll see what seems best when the schedule is set.

Update to start of Lions Thanksgiving game
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told Pat McAfee that the league is planning a change to the Thanksgiving schedule to make it more resemble the typical kickoff times on a Sunday, with the three games kicking off at 1, 4:25 and 8:15 Eastern time.

I wonder if maybe a Pats/Tampa Thursday Night Thanksgiving game would make sense this year ?

The league announced that the league’s six broadcast partners will each announce select games from the schedule from May 12-14. The league did not share which games will be announced, but did say that the designated visiting teams for the league’s international games will be revealed on NFL Network on Tuesday.

I'm looking at Cinci.

For the QB and not for the city. I want to see Maye compete vs the best QBs in the NFL win or lose. I've been to Cinci twice. The first time in 2001 was a good time. The last time was not.

I can't wait to see the out of touch schedule makers put a potential championship game matchup in week 1 or 2. Also CBS, Fox and Amazon hijacking good matchups.

What's the conspiracy?

What's the conspiracy?
None. They are just bad at it which is one of the reasons ratings have been down. The NFL is getting watered down with so many networks.

September is a "sweeps" month so that is a good one for the NFL to put some of the season's marquee games. They get "sweeps" ratings and come out of the gate strong.

November is the others sweeps month. For example, from 2003-2010, the height of Brady-Manning, the Colts played the Patriots 5 times in the regular season, each time in November.

The schedule makers have countless masters to serve. Every owner wants a fair shake. Every network wants the big games, but the inventory of big games is limited.

Do they have Detroit play Philly week 1 for the TNF opener? Or do they save it for November?

I sure hope they save that for later in the year. When the Pats opened against Indy in 2004 it was such a waste.

Baltimore at KC last year was dumb.
