The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Yep that's been said by a few people. He'll get two years if they suck/stay the same but he'll be fine if they are winning 10 games and the bowl money is rolling in.
They are not going to be happy winning 10 games and going to the Music City Bowl.

I find it interesting how Jordan Hudson's mother is the manager of sex toy shop in Provincetown, MA.

So she's his dominatrix.

Has little Billy been a bad boy? There's an image you'll never get out of your head.

In Chapel Hill, no one cares.

When the football season begins, we'll see if firing the winningest coach in Carolina football history was the right move. Everybody loved Mack Brown. Let's see what Clemson does to Carolina in our home ACC opener. Syracuse is favored to beat Carolina on Halloween, in Chapel Hill.

Bill Belichick has never won a Bowl Division football game and finished up his pro career by leaving a complete mess behind in Foxboro. They know he can't draft receivers and that he's put a bullseye on the back of his team by stoking the "33rd NFL Team" nonsense.

And, if he can't beat Duke, they'll run him, his sons, his girlfriend, Mike Lombardi, and his contract out of town.
Im surprised.

Im aware that football is like religion in the South. I used to live in Georgia and that's all the locals think about there. The bible and the church drives the South too, or it did. You cant throw a rock without hitting a church and they all claim to be better than each other.

I hear you but realistically that would be a pretty good rebound year but for the money they are shelling out maybe not. The went to the Orange Bowl in 2020. That might be the expectation. Not sure how real that is. Their schedule seems pretty favorable.

In the 2023-24 fiscal year, UNC football generated approximately $67 million in revenue, with a surplus of $26.8 million after expenses of $40 million. With BB and the national attention, I would not be surprised if all of those numbers doubled in 2025.

Was making the playoffs that year really that impressive? Considering... well you know.

If he had been checked out like the OP suggested absolutely yes.

If you're not all in then you just don't do stuff like that. So yes if he was checked out and still made the playoffs with a rookie who would eventually fall flat on his face then absolutely yes that would be impressive.

If he checked out maybe the impressive credit should go to Josh or something but someone did something right that year.

You point to that Bills loss way to much. You probably gave up on the dynasty after the Ravens loss too.

They must be the talk of Chapel Hill.
One more thing.

Belichick and Lombardi completely whiffed on attracting a QB. Both QBs from 2024 (who were not good) entered the transfer portal and are gone. They did get the immortal Gio Lopez from the storied football powerhouse South Alabama to commit as an upper classman. Lopez may be okay, but he's no Drake Maye, Sam Howell, or Mitch Trubisky which is what Mack Brown brought in to play Carolina Football. Gio Lopez had a 6-6 record in two seasons at South Alabama. Yay!

They did bring in a couple of high school QB recruits who look promising, but you never know what you have with Freshmen until their Sophomore year.

Bill Belichick's girlfriend is the least of our concerns.

That's exactly what i'm thinking.

Freaking BB is Chuck Rhodes from Billions lol.

I don't think Bill was checked out. Compared to Parcells leading up to Super Bowl 31 - now THAT is someone who was checked out. I point to that game because it was a demonstration of where the team was really at compared to the good teams in the league. A history making beatdown. So was it really that "impressive"? Remember if Miami beats 3-14 Jax like they should have, the Pats miss the playoffs in 2021 too.

I think the modern game just left Bill behind. Also happened to Shula and Landry. Coaches dont' have an unlimited shelf life, even the greats.

Obviously some big differences but once they actually see him coach I think they'll be fine.

Look I've mostly stayed out of the TMZ relationship stuff but from a Bill perspective once he coaches you will put up with almost anything for it.
Bill is already doing what he did here. Hiring friends and neglecting the quarterback position. The game has passed Bill by.

That's exactly what i'm thinking.

Can you imagine if that's what it is? His kids would be mortified.

Dad WTF??

I'm glad I said that maybe McD deserves the credit if Bill was infact checked out because Bill deserves a lot of credit for keeping the Patriots together despite Parcells antics. But the truth is neither checked out.

I think in this day and age, the expectation is nothing short of the playoffs. Yes, he will get leeway in year 1 but the college game is not one where is takes years to rebuild.

We are not impressed. Carolina football's recruiting/portal class for this season is mediocre, not great. UNC's recruiting class of freshmen ranks 8th in the ACC. UNC has no five-star players and only one 4-star player coming in as freshmen. Hmmmm, that smells a lot like Bill Belichick's draft record. Top high school players took a look and went to the proven NCAA football coaches, not Belichick.

In the portal, with $25M at his disposal, Belichick signed the 9th ranked group in Bowl Division football. Good, but again, no 5-star players, only one 4-star player, and 25 3-star players. That's like getting a bunch of 4th and 5th rounders, some of whom might be good. UNC will not be an elite football team.

Belichick is dealing with parents who expect him to 1) play their sons, and 2) coach them up to NFL draft standards. He will have children making tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars to manage and keep focused on football in a great college town jam-packed with distractions and high academic standards. A small percentage of 3-star college players get drafted, and they do not get drafted out of UNC.

My expectation, with Gio Lopez at QB, is a .500 record and a crappy bowl game if lucky. Geez. Maybe this year UNC can avoid getting blown out by Connecticut in the Pin Stripe Bowl.

What if he wins?

Beats some powerhouse in a Bowl game. I know that BB is coming back to the NFL. There is no way that he is walking away from the NFL this close to breaking Schulas record.
It's important to understand that Bill O'Brien has a better program at BC in 2025. Bill O'Brien is a local guy, was a humble and good head coach at Penn State following Joe Paterno's death and the scandal, and can really relate to college kids. O'Brien knows how ultra-competitive college football is and how tough it is to recruit and keep kids in the ACC.

Belichick is not even trying to come in with humility and respect for the program he is running following Mack Brown. It feels more like Rick Pitino coming to the Celtics than Mike Vrabel coming to New England. Vrabel is doing a splendid job honoring those who have come before him but recognizing that he has a big mountain to climb.

Belichick lost several kids interested in Carolina to the likes of Georgia Tech, NC State and Duke. UNC will not be in the Bowl Division playoffs and will be lucky to get a middling bowl game against some conference team that finished third or fourth in a power conference.

Yep. The rumblings are very similar to when Charlie took over at ND. A friend of mine went to ND and had it on good authority Charlie came in and pissed everyone off.

Unless he dumps her I'm starting to wonder if BB lasts even one season at UNC.

The whole ordeal also isn't sitting well with Bill's employers -- we're told folks at UNC are now concerned about Hudson's influence on Belichick's tenure as the head football coach in Chapel Hill ... especially with her, essentially, taking on a role as his manager.

As a source put it, there's a "growing sense this could become a problem."
