Three TE prospects to consider....
CJ Dippre - Alabama - 6'5" - 256 lbs
Dippre's statistical production was underwhelming in college, but he had a great workout at the combine and could be more productive at the NFL level. His ability to pick up yards after the catch stands out on tape. He's quick enough to make plays down the seam, and he can break tackles in open space. Dippre is a zone buster who settles into windows and squares to the quarterback. He's an inconsistent blocker, but he can get his hands inside and move his feet. Dippre can be a violent lead blocker. Cincinnati offensive guard Luke Kandra is the only player who benched more than Dippre at the combine. -- Steve Muench
I like the part about him being a violent lead blocker. He could be the FB McDaniels is looking for...
Jalin Conyers - Texas Tech - 6'4" - 260 lbs
Conyers caught five touchdowns last season, while also throwing for one and running for two more. At 260 pounds, he had the quickest short shuttle for the tight ends at the combine and tested well. He runs fast, tracks the ball well and makes contested catches downfield. Arizona State and Texas Tech using him as a Wildcat quarterback speaks to his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. He follows his blocks and breaks tackles. Conyers improved his blocking over the course of his college career, and he has the frame to continue to get better. -- Steve Muench
A little bit of an H-Back. That speaks to his athleticsm. He used to be a QB in high school.
Maliki Matavao - UCLA - 6'6" - 260 lbs
Matavao led the Bruins with 41 catches and 506 receiving yards in 2024. He's a smooth route runner who is quicker than fast and gets to his spots. He can separate with size and strength at the top of routes. He squares to the quarterback and boxes out defenders. Matavao catches passes in traffic over the middle. He gets north-south and breaks tackles after the catch. He's strong enough to cover defenders in space and develop into an effective in-line blocker. -- Steve Muench
I'd say any of these three look like intersting developmental prospects. Maybe PS guys for their first years....
