DRAFT Welcome to New England, Ohio St RB TreVeyon Henderson

500 yards in the air is my standard starting point metric if you aren't doing that it is hard to say they are doing enough to really impact the game. That is want i want in a 2nd round running back along with being a great runner. If he can give us that, i will be singing a different tune. He didn't do it in college in any year. Which concerns me. If he does it with us i will be happy.
I don't agree with this arbitrary number of 500 for a receiving back. Very few RBs, even the ones good at receiving average more than 300 yards in the air per season. Our own James White topped out at 300 yards in the air per season in college.

Henderson hit 280+ twice. He might not be a WR-lite as a RB but he definitely gets the job done in the passing game.

You also need to consider that college offenses are different. He might get significantly more pass catch opportunities in Josh McDaniel's pro system than he did at Ohio State.

But that's a completely different argument to what you originally said.
It all ties into the same thing. Typically if you don't get 500 yards in the air you aren't catching the ball enough. As well as you can be shut down on the ground and made irrelevant. Let me be 100% clear. When i look at running back i look at 4 main stats. 6.6 Yards per touch. This means you catch, well and a lot. Typically is is hard to do this if you aren't getting 500 yards in the air as well as hitting around 5+ YPA.

Without getting 5YPA you typically don't hit 6.6 YPT even if you catch well and fairly often. Without 500 yards in the air you probably aren't having enough touches to have impact. Without 20 touches you aren't having enough impact as a starting back to be worth this pick.

I will take a change of pace back every day who catches and gets 6.6YPT even if they only have 10 touches a game, but then they are worth less as their impact is smaller due to limited touches. Meaning they are worth a lower pick even if hitting those average metrics

To me a 38th overall pick at RB needs to be a guy who has 20 touches a game so they are having enough impact. While also hitting 6.67 YPT. Which means they catch a lot to hit that metric. Which means they probably have over 500 yards in the air or more.

Now if an RB can average 6.67 yards per carry on the ground and run 20 times per game, I wouldn't care if if they couldn't catch. But we know that isn't happening over the course of a season year after year typically. Which is why all these metrics kind of tie together for me. Hope that's more clear.

Of course 6.67 is the golden number and rarely hit over the course of a season, almost never. Sometimes you are just shut down some games... it should more be looked at as how many games you hit 6.67. If you hit in the the majority of games that is good to say they are having a good impact on winning games, not just filling up the stat box. Even the best RBs have issues hitting it over the course of a year as a yearly average even in their best years. It is just the nature of the position.

Would not have been my pick. First off, he can't catch well, which is something i hammer home about on RBs. Secondly he isn't the kind of player who runs more than 12 times a game. I just don't believe considering those factors he has enough impact. That being said, i think he will be a good player. but not the one i would have picked at that spot.
Can't catch well? That's not accurate

If he can prove me wrong and be more active in that part of the game then he has been in his college history, i'll be very happy. All we can go by is his production and how he looked in college. He looked pretty good, but didn't do it enough. I want a RB I pick at 38 catching multiple balls every game. If he does that I will be happy.

How well he can catch, and often he is targeted in that offense, are apples and oranges.
The ONLY stat we've got that's relevant is the two drops.

You must have him confused with someone else.

Henderson had 77 catches for 11yds a catch during his career which is excellent in that O as OSU is all about the WRs. He runs good routes. Good body control, and has good hands

This is interesting.

Jahmyr Gibbs - Height 5-9 Weight 200 Arms 30 1/2 Hands 9 1/4 40- 4.36 10 Yard Split - 1.53

TreVeyon Henderson - Height 5-10 Weight 202 Arms 30 3/4 Hand 9 1/2 40- 4.43 10 Yard split 1.52

Very interesting. Awful close in a lot of areas, might have a tad less top end speed but man thats pretty close

They desperately needed some explosive players on offense. McDaniels has always featured a passing down back heavily, but with Maye still so young it might not make sense to go with a guy like Faulk, Vereen, White who was really only a passing game type guy. Henderson might not be the receiver those guys are, but supposedly a great blocker which give him utility on those formations while still being a threat to actually call a traditional run play. That’s going to help Maye, having that dual threat even when they go passing back.
He's actually the kind of talent that can stay in for all 3 Downs.

I am in Ohio and have seen virtually every game that Henderson has played in his four years at OSU. Anyone saying that he is not a good receiver has no idea what they are talking about. He is also the best blocking RB coming out of college that I can recall. I have seen him stone many blitzers and he seems to have an instinctual knack for moving in the correct direction to find that penetrating defensive player.

Probably the best or second best blocking rb in the class. He blocks his ass off! Like he's a killer out there.

His game speed is real. Hes explosive with plus acceleration. Hit 22 mph! Doesn't fumble

Can play ST

Tough runner who can run inside/outside in multiple schemes. You don't have to take him off the field at all. Gap/Zone it doesn't matter. He can step into multiple schemes no problem. He'll fight for yards, fight through tackles or break away from you all together. He can make you miss. Plus contact balance and agility. Plus footwork! Plus vision. Runs low to.the ground. I think he has rec upside. MY RB2 overall in terms of grades and RB1 on the ptp board. Just missed a 1st RD grade. Dude was absolutely electric his FO year. Which is what you want to see, you want that early breakout year. He's a dog.

Yeah I didn’t mean he can only play passing downs. I meant that it’s nice to have a guy who can take the non passing down snaps also take the passing down snaps because that dual threat will help Maye. In year 2 I don’t think you want to just throw him in the gun without any real handoff threat like Brady would do with White for instance.

This guy is a jahmyr gibbs lite... Great value for where we picked .... He is gonna be a stud and probably push rham to become even better .

Vrabel removing entitlement immediately ..

Baker , Polk, Lowe, Rham, caedan Wallace.... Work your @zz off to get a starting role....
