DRAFT Welcome to New England, LSU OT Will Campbell

You have to project from college to the pros...what other option is there? The best indicator of future success is previous performance whether you like it or not. Until he shows otherwise he is the starting LT and I believe he will succeed.
All I'm saying is that being good at not giving up sacks in college is not a thing that necessarily translates to the pros. For instance, a guy like Vederian Lowe who was 2nd team B1G at LT gave up 2 sacks his last year. And get this, he had 2 penalties the entire year. One false start, one holding.

Yeah I heard he was crying when he was picked. Tito, could you hand me a tissue...?

I would claim that he looks like the Pillsbury Dough Boy too, but I betcha even Pop-n-Freah has a longer wingspan...

Cap its okay to admit you teared up a bit yourself

Don't rightly hold too much faith in the ratings, but since there is really nothing else, PFF ranks Bernhard Raimann and his 32 7/8 inch arms 85.1, the 8th best LT in the past year...
It's stupid to ***** about it now like I said before. We'll see who's right and who's wrong on the field in a few months. I'll be more than thrilled to be wrong.

Yeah this constant quoting the sack stats as some trump card is insane. It's crazy how we've all collectively (mostly) moved past just citing a guys receiving or rushing yards as evidence of what type of pro they'll be, but for whatever reason people have regressed to doing the same with OL stats which are insanely subjective and unreliable anyway.

Marshall Newhouse has 34” arms. Guess he’s awesome sign the beast

Isaiah Wynn did not give a ****

Not sure Owenu gives a **** now that he got paid

Trent Brown did not care

Regardless of his arm length its nice for once to see a Pats OL who might care about keeping his qb upright

Put a ruler on the end of your fingertip to see how much 3/8” actually is. Then consider that there’s a dispute about the combine arm measures being off for everyone this year and that he’s been measured as 33”, same as all pro Slater. Then also consider the hand/finger length distortion
issue that everyone’s pointing out here.
Now tell me with a straight face that Campbell’s arm length is a big concern.
3/8 x 2 = 6/8 or .75.

Its nothing.

Bruce had the same arm length just an interesting fact I learned on here last night.
How did Bruce Armstrong do against Bruce smith twice a year???

Color me optimistic... If the clots can make raimann a quality starting left tackle, then there is no reason to doubt that Will Campbell can make the transition from college to the pros at the LT position

There are no sure things in the NFL draft, even at the top. No perfect players. So the NFL is a test of overcoming limitations. Campbell is a terrific kid who contributed mightily for LSU in the pass and the run game. Great strength and explosiveness in a highly coachable athlete with a history of strong performance and leadership at the top of the collegiate level. OT is a position where college success likely projects to NFL success, and Campbell has a better chance than other drafted OTs of NFL success.

So what does … translate? A tape measurement? What other information do you have to suggest success or failure moving up into the NFL. I’m done with this conversation. He checks more boxes than not. I hope he protects Mayes blindside for years to come.

He won’t be a bust. There’s something about him that gives the impression that he’ll succeed in manning Maye’s blindside successfully. Intangibles mixed with disrespect/will to win is a dangerous combination.

Armstrong did well vs Smith... defensive stats from that era are lacking, but if you look at the bragging rights stat (Sacks) from '90-'99, when they were primary opponents, you can get an idea that Armstrong was effective in blunting Smiths game wrecking impact... in the division, the fins Richmond Webb had better success, but Armstrong was right behind him in terms of effectiveness...

good thing is - there is currently no one in the afce that is half as good as bruce smith was

You make it seem as if I'm denigrating the kid. Stop being so defensive. All I said was that sacks given up doesn't tell us anything. Vederian Lowe gave up very few sacks. A bunch of OTs have the same thing. This is a basic point.

So if he gave up 20 sacks last year it wouldnt matter since it doesnt tell you anything. Got it. Im done we aren’t going to view this the same way. Feel free to have the last word though.

I dont understand the point t of the arm length debate. We will getting see once practices start. The decision has been made.
