DRAFT Welcome to New England, LSU OT Will Campbell

The narrow shoulders mean a lot more in this entire discussion. Losing a total of 6 inches across (half a foot effectively) means a lot more than losing 1 or 2 inches due to arm length.

When you're giving the defender 1/2 a foot more room to get around you on each play, that may have some significance.
That makes sense - thanks for the input.

Comparing current All Pro Wirfs' 34" arms, 10.25" hands, and 80.25" wingspan with Will Campbell's 33" arms, 9.5" hands and 77.4" wingspan. Looks like Wirfs effectively has 0.25" longer arms, and 1.38" wider shoulders. If it gets to extended arm lengths, then it sounds like an OL who lost and has to do an obvious penalty hold.

We'll see if WC's technique will translate to the big leagues.

And I hope Ian and every other mindless pajama wearing fanboy enjoys your *********** tonight, because the fall out from this pick is going to be painful.

The Pats won’t be sniffing the playoffs anytime soon, throwing away premium draft picks on good guys that can’t play.

We haven’t had a franchise LT since Bruce Armstrong. Campbell was controversial leading up to the draft and will be heavily scrutinized. In fact, he’s the most controversial pick in a long time. If he’s not a day 1 starter, the fans and media will go nuclear on him.
He’s not getting beat out by anyone on our roster. He could be very average or even below and still be miles ahead of what else we had/have.

But.... but.... his arms are the same length as that one ****ty LT that played for us.... what was his name? Matt Light?
I may be wrong, but I remember reading Matt Light’s arms were measured at 33.6”. But he was almost two inches shorter and not quite the athlete as WC.

Campbell’s issue in the pros is over eagerly setting for an outside rush, but then having a speedy end cut inside. Holding penalties may ensue.

Campbell’s was dominant in 2023. But according to some his play last season wasn’t as good. But he did dominant in certain games. Like against Oklahoma.

Great kid from a great family. He’s got the girlfriend lined up. She must be happiest of all.

Who would you have wanted in place of him?

Bruce had the same arm length just an interesting fact I learned on here last night.

I'm not worried about the arm length as it's been talked about. In fact, he might be more obsessed over than Shawn Crable's legs. All I care about is whether he can play.

Way less concerning than those toothpicks were.

(Investments aside)

Reports are that he wanted to come to NE. That it was very high if not the highest on the list. I wonder if that has to do with Maye. Knowing that he could have a part in helping to keep him upright. Might have been a big sell.

I assume it's mostly just due to the fact we were the first team in the draft that was going to take him.

Will Campbell pick is as bland tasting as my ****.
We don't need draft picks to be exciting. We just need them to be able to play football. If you draft for "splash" you're basically Ryan Grigson and there's a reason he doesn't have a GM job anymore.

Let’s hope he can play tackle…

He said it himself. He knew week 5 in his season that he wanted to be here.

I agree the pick is a flop if he does not prove at least a "solid" LT, but that he could likely be a better-than-solid OG is a nice consolation prize or insurance policy. It is hard to know whether to be disappointed in the pick or in the iffy array of options in the this draft for team which has desperately needed a reliable LT for far too long.

Oh look, the children are playing with their little pictures again. No reason the illiterate shouldn't share their "thinking," I suppose.

It did.....twice in the past two years.
