2025 Draft Rumours (ie The Pinch Of Salt Thread)

Yeah, by all accounts had a great pro day too. Always helps when you have the best tracker in college shagging balls for you though.
I really think that his father really enters into it. He was a mercenary, and that has to affect how teams look at it. Do you want a QB who you'll develop into something only to have him leave after his rookie deal? Just when he's coming into his own? I know there's no guarantee that's what will happen, but is it a factor? Don't you draft a QB in R1 and hope he's the face of your franchise for a couple contracts?

Which would you rather? Carter or AJ Brown + 32?

Brown plus 32 would put a mid first trade value on AJ Brown. Would the Eagles do that? Would we?

This is why I’m uncomfortable waiting on 38 for a LT or relying on trading up.

Yeah, there is no way they can wait until 38 for a Tackle, They would have to swing a trade back up into the First. I think they are set on drafting Campbell.

The best option is drop down to no later than 10, pick up another 3rd or better. Then they can still pick one of the top tackles, assuming they grade them somewhat equally.
Of course, this Option is unlikely unless they can find a willing trade partner.

Where would you draft a LT then? I’d rather get one of the better ones at 4 than a worse in the back end of the first in which I have to give up additional draft capital.
We could trade down to 9 and then use the extra pick and our 38 to trade back up to about 17.

That way, we would have a top 10 player plus a top 20 player. I suspect that Simmons, Banks, or Conerly would be available at 17 if we don't want to use our 9th one of the LT's that is available at 9.

What happened to this guy ? I hope he comes to the NFL and kills it. This is incredible how he went from the 2nd best QB to god knows what.

Granted, the kid is shooting himself in the foot with these interviews.
How terrible, he went from the 2nd best QB to the 3rd best QB.

The issue is that folks thought (and many still do) that someone will panic and pick Sanders in the top 10. Personally, I think that Dart at 9 is more likely than Sanders.

A month ago, Team Sanders was indicating that there were teams in the top 3 that he didn't want to play for. Then his team was fine with anywhere in the top 10. Hype from Father Sanders may have convinced some team to draft him in the top 10, likely not.

Who are we trading down with? Without an answer to that question, I stick to my original point.

I could live with AJ, trade up for Simmons and Mason Taylor at 38.

Would be giving up one of 3’s to move up for Simmons. RB at 78 A center in 4th. Our offense would be dramatically better if Simmons can go.

For trade backs, the best place to be is the mid-back half of the first round.

Good stuff from Breer this morning:

* Like a lot of teams, the Patriots certainly would entertain a trade down, but finding a partner won’t be easy. If they get stuck at No. 4, in that circumstance, my sense is they’ll invest in protecting their young quarterback and LSU’s Will Campbell will be the pick. There are questions on his long-term viability at tackle, but he’s the most pro-ready of the offensive linemen, and has a high floor, in that most believe he could be an All-Pro guard. One GM told me he thinks there are similarities in Campbell to Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater, who was projected by many to be a guard, but proved athletic and technically sound enough to stay at his college position. Another comped his college tape to Zack Martin’s—Martin played left tackle at Notre Dame and may be a Hall of Famer as an NFL guard. Either way, coach Mike Vrabel has spent a ton of time one-on-one with Campbell, and Campbell knocked his 30 visit in March out of the park. If it’s not Campbell? Georgia hybrid LB/edge Jalon Walker is another “program guy” who’d be a solid fit for the remade Patriots. And if there is no trade down, I think the Patriots will keep looking for ways to build up their war chest of draft picks, maybe even with a trade of a veteran like receiver Kayshon Boutte.

* I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a quarter of the first round is devoted to offensive linemen... So if a team wants a lineman who can help quickly, it’d be risky for them to wait until Friday.

* If some team takes a big swing with a trade up in the first round, I wouldn’t be stunned if it was for Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty. The New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers are all open to moving down, but to this point there haven’t been a ton of teams looking to move up (Denver has explored it)... the more serious calls between teams come this week.... Of course, the Jaguars could make the trade talk moot and take him with the fifth pick.

* Ohio State OT Josh Simmons tore his patellar tendon in October, and that’s a tough injury for a big man to return from. He went through the combine re-check in mid-April, and the impression teams have gotten is that it’ll be August before he’s fully cleared to play football.

* I’d be surprised if Banks makes it out of the top 11-or-so picks. He’s more of a prototype left tackle than Campbell or Membou and is solid character-wise. And while he had a couple rough outings against Georgia, there’s enough on tape to believe he’ll improve.

Rashawn Slater and Zack Martin. However will we cope?
