Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

The notion that Milton has to go because his entirely predictable and actually laudable aspiration to start one day (here or elsewhere) might hurt Drake's feelings is the most asinine rationale I have heard for any of this team's many utterly stupid moves since the Krafts made the hopelessly foolish decision to hire Mayo because the old man found him a charming travel companion. A new coach, it seems, may well not be enough after all to get this team to remove its head from its ass, where it has been firmly stuffed for years now. I hope Milton does great, both for his sake, and as - maybe, finally - a wake up call for this crap organization.
If this is a crap organization, then you might be better off rooting for another team. The organization will NOT get better.

What I meant was he is not competing for the starting job. Dak may get injured, and Milton may start some games, but Milton will not be the starter in Dallas.

That's a 9-figure dead cap number, so I can't see that happening.
Oh.. I totally get what you're saying. But what I forsee happening is dak going down as he usually does.. and Joe gets in and impresses. Dak gets moved to a QB needy team and those teams agree on how much on the dead cap $$$..

In Cleveland...Haslem right now has a QB in Watson that is owed 92 million over the next 2 years for example.. they will have to eat alot of dead cap themselves.

When posters call it a crap organization can they please mention the consecutive seasons in AFCCG, the 6 SBs and 10 superbowl appearances.. and a era of winning spanning over 2 decades..

I think it's similar to Brissett's career. He started as a backup. He went to a place to be a backup. He was ok. They gave him a chance to start. He wasn't very good. He went back to being a backup. Repeat.

Milton has a chance to compete, but it's very, very unlikely that he turns into a franchise QB for Dallas or anywhere else. But if he makes it, great for him.
You make good points mike.. I definitely understand Milton wanting to be a starter as it shows he's hungry. However you still as a player have to earn your spot. I think Milton is an athletic QB and is good for the league. If he ended up being a backup for his career he could have done that in NE while growing his stock.

The team had other offers and I'm probably sure Pittsburgh was one of them. He surely has a better chance to start over Mason Rudolph.

Absolutely. Imagine how bills fans feel.

Then I guess we need new ownership. I have not been one to complain about the owners' being cheap, but their judgement for at least half a decade in building an organization has been horseshit.

Imagine his trade value in that scenario.
Cant have that.

The next # 2 QB should be a loser and know it. Fetch Gatorade for Maye and Mickey D and tote a clipboard around.

The Pats are ranked 31st worst franchise per the NFLPA.

How can that be? I know, Bob Thunder Kraft.

Ownership didn't make this decision. Milton is on a dirt cheap contract. Vrabel and Wolf didn't value Milton and the market didn't value him and they figured the return was better than keeping a third stringer they didn't think much of.

Yeah Cleveland is screwed. I mean they did it to themselves but unless they extend Watson (and they ain’t extending Watson) they have to eat something like $130 million cap in ‘26 and ‘27.

That is fueling my desperate hope that they take Shedeur for a cheap QB to get them to ‘28.

Yeah, but until Drake gets injured (note, until not if) having a backup who thinks he’s good enough to start is a volatile situation.

This was defusing a ticking time bomb in locker room dynamics.
You know what else does that?
Drake Maye going out on the field, and leaving no doubt as to why he'd be the starter.

The “#199 curse” is in full effect on Patsfans. We need to find pro bowlers in the 6th rd every draft; otherwise FIRE WOLF.
You don't have to wait until the 6th round, you can fire Wolf after his 2nd round picks.

Yeah. This is the only reasonable explanation. Nebulous reports of better offers don't mean much to me. I'd have thought he was worth a 5th round pick without giving up the 7th, but it's not like you can't replace a 7th with an UDFA or two. People getting all verklempt over this is a bit rich, but that's how we roll around here.

34 pages on this and counting? Christ on a bike, is it really that big of a deal to some folk on here? Just smells like an excuse to lash out at the Pats, which is these people's default position on most things. Weird.

Thanks. Yeah, like it or not, this organization in the big picture is the same one that did that stuff.

We're just spoiled is all.

But then again, there's also this frustration for younger fans, I would imagine. What if you were 12 in 2018? Now you're 19, in peak football following years, and rings n stuff? That's what your dad's Patriots did.

I'm way more chill about the team, myself. I accepted when the run really ended that no fan base on earth had ever been treated to that kind of run. Mind you I'm still rooting for KC to be unable to answer the "2nd dynasty" bell. Better yet, just collapse. I thought what we achieved was un-equalled and un-equalable, but they put it in doubt right away.

Okay that grenade rolled into the room, I'm going back to doomscrolling about my disappearing IRA.

Yeah agree.. I believe he was guaranteed like 200 million right? Obviously that was when Watson was regarded as a top 5 QB at the time.. talk about a talented guy who literally screwed his own career by no other fault then his own.. know I know the injuries didn't help.. but as he said himself his mental wasn't right so he didn't go all in for his training in the off season wich correlates to injuries on the field. Haslem was at Sheduer pro day I believe??

Agreed. However the difference is Mahomes doesn't strike me as the type of guy who's playing into his late 30s and Reed likely isn't coaching into his mid 70s.. also Mahomes got married in his 20s Brady didn't get married until his 30s.. as we know happy wife happy life.. to your point we were absolutely spoiled with greatness from a legendary Coach and legendary QB.

I'll say this Vrabel has something in him that can get us back into a contender.. he mentioned in his interview how badly he missed coaching and how passionate about it he is.. he will push Drake and exude every ounce of talent that Drake has.
