Jimmy Garoppolo was a 2nd round pick (62 overall). We were hoping if he got moved it would be for a 1st, and allegedly the Browns were willing to facilitate that, but BB opted to trade him out of the conference to the 49ers for a 2nd instead.
GM of the year move right there.

Show me on the doll where mean ole Bill Belichick hurt you.

Why are we trading a young QB with potential when we really don't know for sure that Maye is a sure thing? I'd wait a year no matter what Milton wants.

I agree.

I was listening to either the radio or Curran's pod, don't recall which. They said the "GM saving face" thing is a real thing in some places.

"We could have had this guy last year for a 6th and now you to want to spend a 3rd? Maybe I need a new GM."

My guess is that's why there's no deal now but by the time the 3rd-4th round rolls around, there's likely to be. I still think the deal will be a 4th this year, but maybe a 3rd next year. I'd be ecstatic if they got a 4th and a 6th for Milton and a 7th. But I hear all you guys saying 3rd or F.O., and I hope they get a 3rd. I am not gonna be married to my position to where I want to be right more than I want the team succeed. They get a 3rd, I'll be congratulating them and all y'all.
It’s too bad if a GM screwed up last year and didn’t draft Milton when they could have.

The Pats don’t owe it to any GM to help them save face by giving them a sweet deal for Milton.

Milton is worth what he is worth.

Tommy, everyone wanted Boutte gone his rookie season as well, because he did nothing and was running his mouth about playing time, and wanted to be elsewhere. Same thing went for James White, most of this board thought he was dogshit and wanted him gone after his rookie season. Young players need to be given time and good coaching to develop, most drafted after the first round don’t just walk in and produce right off the bat.
With you again Huck

From what I heard years ago from Mike Lombardi was that BB didn't like dealing with the Browns organization because of how unorganized and dysfunctional they were. There wasn't one point of contact. I think the Browns said they would've given up a 1st round pick for damage control for botching the potential trade.

It's known that BB and Shanahan have a good relationship and made the deal happen quick so the Pats could move on. However, John Lynch has said he was surprised BB only wanted a 2nd round pick and was prepared to give up more. I don't think he meant 1st round pick, but extra picks thrown in.

First and foremost, love your profile avatar. My aunt used to have a dog that looked almost exactly like that one. Knew him since he was a puppy. Dogs are wonderful, we truly don’t deserve them and they’re gone far too soon.

Back to Diggs. Signing him doesn’t preclude the Pats from getting O-line help, which they’ve done their best to address so far. The point of signing Diggs wasn’t to give Maye a long-term solution at WR, but rather to give him a target who has played football at a high level and can presumably still play it better than anyone else he’s played with before. Diggs is a bridge to hopefully a better, younger WR that the Pats get in the future. Someone who can set an example for the younger receivers that will play for this team. He is here to buy the team some time until they can find that long-term option.

As for O-line, the only miss of the offseason was not getting Thuney for a 4th round pick. I was okay at first with the Pats missing out because of his age (33) and contract situation (1 year remaining), but there have been other guards who have played at a high level into their mid-to-late 30’s and Thuney could theoretically still be that guy. It would’ve been nice. Apart from that though I can’t fault the Pats for not fixing everything overnight. There just haven’t been many options.

Ronnie Stanley and Alaric Jackson both re-signed with their teams before free agency, nothing the Pats could do about that. Dan Moore got grossly overpaid by the Titans, a guy who I’m not sure is any better than Vederian Lowe. Jaylon Moore is unproven and has a mediocre athletic profile and signed a hefty contract of his own off a small sample size. Nobody wanted to pay Cam Robinson what he was looking for after he sucked last year and he eventually settled on a prove-it deal with a contender to try to rehab his market value for next year. The best remaining option in free agency is Tyron Smith who looked bad for the Jets last year and hasn’t played a full season of football in the last nine years.

Apart from that they’ve managed to get some help with Morgan Moses at RT and Garrett Bradbury at C. They’ll need to address LT in the Draft because no team is letting their good OT’s walk. Let’s give this team a chance to see what they find in the Draft. If they came away empty handed at that position then we can get the pitchforks out.
I agree with most of this. The Diggs thing is fine in its way, but giving Drake someone to throw to, so to say, contributes very little (maybe some mentorship) to the rebuild if you assume, as I do, that we have at least two more years to go before we are genuinely competitive (beyond delusional "we're still not mathematically eliminated" nonsense). I think it's mainly a sop to impatient fanboys, a shiny object for those who need such diversion. I agree that the team is not much to be blamed for having failed to get what the optimists hoped for in the free agent/trade arena. There just wasn't much available, which drove prices to a level where most of the options were irresponsibly pricey, particularly given the very mediocre level of talent on offer, for a team with as many needs as this team, however much dough we have on hand. It was a market for teams looking for the finishing touches, not for a team such that - what? - maybe half the roster shouldn't even be in the league.

The real disappointment, of course, is the still (or increasingly) dismal state of the O-line, the quality of which I regard as more important to Drake';s development - and safety - than the quality of our WR's.

”This means that, until Diggs passes a physical, the Patriots aren’t on the hook for any of the guaranteed money. It likewise means that, if he re-tears the ACL or has any other aggravation or re-injury to the right knee, they owe him nothing.”

That’s ^ brilliant…

Yep, this is looking more and more like a 'prove it' deal every day.

He Ranked 47th among his DT Peers on one site Canton watchout.

Thor benched it 42 times at his pro day, he is really strong.
In one ranking Thor is 47th among the DT prospects and he is benching 225lbs. 42 times. These guys are amazing athletes.

Hard to tell because he didn’t workout beyond the bench press. The only drill he participated in at his pro day was the shuttle and it wasn’t good. He might just be a not very athletic but strong plugger like Khyiris Tonga.

I bet he could snap he in half, and I doubt I could outrun him.

It all depends on which metrics you use and if it was a talent evaluators site then what does that person value in a DT. Context is king, he played against lesser competition at Harvard and had a stacked DL at Louisville. Is he as good as some metrics make him out to be probably not but he is better than a lot of "draft experts" think, imo

If he came here he would also be on a stacked DL and as far as the canton reference, if you draft a guy on day 3 you are not expecting him to be a HOFer

I was j/k a lot of Day 3 DT's pan out in the right schemes.
