Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

Given that most teams prefer to have 3 QB's, barring injury, he makes the team. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Thats fine. I was referring to the 7th rounder and it's value.

They clearly felt Milton wasn't going to be a fit here so they traded him. I bet they draft a QB that they think will be a better system fit.

My comparison to Brady was only about their desire to be a starter

Do you also want a backup who “knows his place”?

That is what I was responding to….

I believe backups should push starters, while others believe backups “need to know their place”.

Would they have traded Brady so he wouldn’t challenge Bledsoe?
I'm not saying Milton shouldn't strive to ever become a starting QB. Nobody joins the NFL dreaming of being just a backup. But he's need to be smarter and realistic about what his opportunities are. Looking good in Week 18 doesn't mean you're in the discussion for QB1. Beat out Joshua Dobbs (which shouldn't be too hard if Milton is as good as you think he is), and the opportunities will come from there. Maye looked the best out of all the QB's in training camp last year, better than Brissett, better than Zappe, better than Milton. He only didn't start Week 1 because the OL was such a ****show the team didn't want to throw him into the fire right away. But Maye eventually got in and never looked back. He earned it but also the team had more faith in him given he was taken 190 picks earlier than Milton. It's all about being realistic.

Had Milton put his head down, worked harder, beat out Dobbs for the backup role, maybe he gets in for Maye from an injury. Maybe he gets a chance to put more tape in the regular season against teams actually trying to win. Maybe his stock goes up even more and he can get traded to a team that actually wants him to start. That would've been win-win for both him and the Pats. None of us really know what happened because we're not in those buildings with those guys but I can only imagine Milton being shipped off was not performance-related. Brady felt he was the best QB on any team he was on, but he wasn't a malcontent about it. He waited patiently for his opportunity. I can only assume Milton wasn't being patient enough to Vrabel's liking. And in the end I don't see it as a big loss. I feel very, very confident that Milton isn't going to make the Pats regret trading him.

I think that's a thing in the NFL with a player for pick swap... the player almost always comes along with a lower draft pick. Not sure why.
Yea not sure why they do that either.

Thank god. The Michael Bishop Jr Circus has moved on.

He never faced a team that was actively trying to defend him. I'm not saying he couldn't have been good. I'm saying that we have no concrete evidence he was going to be good.

If I remember right, during that game against the Bills, he was called out more than a few times for getting lucky since he made the wrong reads and throws.

I hope so. I like Will Howard. Although some have pointed out on here that there are two other decent middle round prospects who have nice upside.

Dunno....thought we could have gotten a 4th...but think Dallas didn't have a 4th because of the Lance trade...but at least we should have gotten a 6th on top of the 5th....

For all we know he could have also been a surprise cut in camp. He's exactly the same QB he was a year ago. The Pats can and did do better with Dobbs as QB2.

A 5th rounder for a 7th and a guy who will not be in the league in a few years? Steal.

Cassel, Mallett, Jimmy, Stidham, Zappe, Cunningham and now Milton... amazing how many Tom Bradys the Patriots could have had over the years.
You can do the same thing for receivers
I remember people being excited about Tyquan Thornton including Patsfans own BGC, who liked him, but had him projected to go in the 4th

Most love the picks until they fail on the field

People were defending the Wallace at LT idea last year after the draft

LOL... well I'm sure brady when he had a few in him.. was telling his fellow OL that roommated with him in Quincy.. that he was better than Drew ..

He kind of did, I remember Ty Law telling a story when Drew was still injured, after an away game a bunch of players went out to eat ( I believe it was Buffalo and they couldn’t travel back because of a storm) Brady told everyone at the table that Drew was never getting his job back. Ty said him and Milloy laughed and said you have to like the kids confidence.

You 100% tried to compare Brady to Milton and assumed we'd all just let it sit there while you imparted you vast wisdom on us. Gimme a break.
My only comparison between Brady & Milton is their desire to be a starter

You prefer a backup who is happy holding a clip board or as you call it. “Knows his place”!

With you at GM Brady would have been traded for not “knowing his place”

Or call him Mac

You would think Jerry Jones could do the Pats a solid and up their offer to what the Pats turned down to take the Dallas offer, or do solids only go one way?
This is a phony rumor. There is just no way the patriots sell an asset for less than someone else is willing to pay. It would be grounds for firing.

Whatever you think of Milton, he was very very exciting to watch.
I can understand why he wants a chance to play.
My question is why did they draft him, after drafting Maye?

Seems they realize they shouldn’t have so they corrected it
