Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

LOL I know.

I think that might have been a thing in 2002 if Bledsoe had never gotten hurt. Brady would have found himself back in the familiar role of fighting for the job like he did at Michigan.
LOL... well I'm sure brady when he had a few in him.. was telling his fellow OL that roommated with him in Quincy.. that he was better than Drew ..

Reading between the lines Vrabel's statements about Milton explained why he was traded. “Everybody wants to be the starter, everybody and that’s great to have that attitude". He really meant that it is great to have that attitude until it becomes a distraction to the team. This trade is another example of Vrabel wanting to start from scratch with the locker room culture. Good luck to Milton, he was not going to be the starter here.
Exactly correct! Spot on Stu.

Potential distraction is Exactly what would have been happening.. I don't think Dak is long for Dallas.. so maybe Milton had a real spot down there.

The more I think about this trade, this is so much like a Belichick type trade. Meaning a bad trade. Belichick was horrible at trading assets, never got a good return.

Shouldn’t we take the best deal instead of doing solids?
The better option might have been something neglible like not giving up the 7th or a slightly higher 5th. People are running wild thinking it was a meaningfully better offer.

If it was substantial, then yeah take it. But there’s also value in sending the message to players and agents that the front office will do right by them. The Lakers are known for having a player friendly front office and it makes it easier for them to sell their franchise to agents and players because they are easy to do business with. Dallas always finds ways to get talent and a large part of that is the rep they have for rolling out the red carpet for players. If they difference wasn’t significant, there’s utility in doing a player a solid and making the franchise look player friendly

Should have shown him in preseason and waited until teams get injuries during the season, including us. Could have swung a better deal mid season, maybe a player for player

Likely Prescitt will get injured and miss a few games this year
Milton will get a chance to start with Lamb as his WR1
I will bet this trade will be viewed as a steal for Cowboys by end of year
Or Milton plays actual starters and not a skeleton crew and can’t handle the heat and we look like we got something for nothing.

It’s equally speculation that Milton is some stud who just needs a chance

My only splitting hairs nitpick is would have liked to swap him outright for their pick 174 vs. adding the 7th for pick 171. Like an extra dart to throw at the wall and likely get the same player at 171 or 174

We have to assume the Pats know what their doing, but they need to explain it to us fans so we can see their reasoning, because as of now this makes zero sense and does not help the team.

Is anyone here more enthused after this trade?
They acquired a 5th round pick for a player which a) appreciated in value and b) They didn't want and wasn't going to play.

Seems pretty simple to me.

I was not high on Milton as a QB
But this leak right after he gets traded is sketchy and dirty
No sign of this last year
You now make a trade that most fans will disagree with
So you put this info out there to soften the blow

Which we never will.
I mean it’s pretty obvious. Brady was turning 40, they expected some decline or a slow down that they could use to make the switch. Brady had an MVP year and it became impossible to move him and sell it to fans.

Likewise, Jimmy’s agent wasn’t going to do the Pats any favors. Jimmy was getting paid.

Yep

In the end, we all know that Drake was our guy. Milton would always be QB#2 unless the unthinkable happens

But this report, as soon as he's out the door, can't be taken to heart right now, at least to me

The point is that Milton as back-up QB is worth much more than a 5th round rookie, even if its another QB

Milton has showed promise that other guys taken in these rounds dont, even if its very limited exposure to NFL quality.

Not too long ago people were asking for a 2nd and/or 3rd for him (i pegged a 3rd back then)

In general, A 5th round rookie is a borderline roster player, Milton was already the QB#2

This is a very weird trade, Ross, unless the managent is sure of something not known publicaly
Correction. Patriots fans who have a history of grossly overvaluing guys on the roster said he was worth something we now know he wasn’t even in the same stratosphere of.

Also keep it simple, he’s a third string QB. Our ideal scenario is him riding the bench all year, our next best scenario is Dobbs has enough vet experience to not force going to number three. We have a new OC who runs a different system, and Milton was not a great fit. The coaching staff also probably isn’t as impressed by what they see and playing backups in one game wasn’t a difference maker

All true, except that with the potential that he seemed to have, Qb#2 or #3 is a bit of moot point. We had him for cheap for 3 more years

Whatever in the end, this is Maye's era

What a horrible trade !
We even needed to add a 7th with Milton.

This is what happens when we go cheap on the GM

I'm the best decision this organization ever made.

We also spent 2 picks for a player that didn't want to play, getting 1 back

Draft-value wise, only the infamous JJ board is going to tell how much we ""won""
