Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

I think they did Milton a solid by sending him somewhere that he might get a shot because Dak is always hurt. If the 5th gets used to move around the board then I think its worth it. Milton was a ton of trash in college, 1 game does not change that. He may improve to the point that he is quality but I am not holding my breath.

I really don't understand why everyone is so upset about trading a bottom of the roster guy. He played very well against the Bills but that was the outlier when you look at the majority of football he has played.

I am sure someone is going to get some butt hurt over this, so feel free to let it fly.

I suspect McDaniels is behind this and must not like him as a person or his play style

If Ben Johnson had been hired, Milton would still be on team
Sam with the conspiracy theory.

No. But...

We aren't in the locker room, the meetings, film study or practice. There's gotta be something that the league knows that we don't and that's why they didn't hold out for a day 2 pick. Maybe the 10 cent head and million dollar arm thing is really a thing and he can't run a true NFL offense, never mind one that JMcD can draw up. Against a vanilla D on week 18, where he runs around playing backyard football? Sure. Can he process pre-snap reads and go thru his progressions? None of us know.

I'm going back to the first part of your statement: we have to assume they know what they are doing. There's gotta be some secret level NFL **** that says that no one is going to overpay for a back up QB. Everyone here thought Jimmy G was worth more than a 2nd. We all thought this kid was worth more than they got. Ok, whatever... moving on. It's done.
Why do we have to assume they know what they are doing?
Wolf traded away the Mcconkey pick for Polk
Make no assumptiions even about Vrabel

We said the same about BB for his last 5 years when his mismanagement destroyed the team

Wtf is this??

It's ain't Wolf. It's Vrabel. Vrabel says "Eliott, get the best return for this kid, he ain't gonna be able to run Josh's offense. See if you can do him a solid"

Not to flog a dead horse, but I'd really like to hear Belichick's explanation of what he thought the plan was for Garoppolo after SB51. There wasn't any plausible route from Brady to Garoppolo at that point without a fan revolt.

OTOH, the actual deal, while it wasn't officially structured this way, was Jimmy Garoppolo for SF's 2nd plus Brian Hoyer, after SF paid Hoyer ~$10M for just half a season.

Which we never will.

Hawt take prediction: This is the first domino in a longer play to move up from 38.

I've been thinking the best strategy would be to go into the draft already holding Minnesota's 24th overall pick. This 5th could be a step in that direction. Give Minny 38 + a 3rd + a 5th.

Knowing we can get a strong LT prospect at 24 would give the team ultimate freedom to do whatever it wants at 4.
Hope your right.

They're not going to take the podium and talk about how they don't think Milton is very good despite fan hype over how far he can throw it. That's just not realistic. I understand fans wanting real explanation from the team on certain roster transactions, but have to remember that the guys they're adding to the team or removing from the team are people and it's just bad business to treat them with a lack of empathy or respect and disparage them publicly. You're always going to get sugarcoated answers from the team when they're talking about things because the human beings on the team deserve to be treated with some kindness publicly.

He was Wolf’s second best draft pick last year.
So he undid the one actually professional decision he made last year. (Any with half a brain, or in Wolf's case a little less, would have chosen Drake.)

Wolf is a punk, right up there with Tim Walz when it comes to punchability..

Looks like he **** in his pants while playing with his balls alone. Seems right.
That was ****ing hilarious... post more Zoomnbyu... your humor is warranted.. have I introduced you to my twin.. @PatsFan2 ....

OK, it’s an explanation, but I still don’t think it needed to be done now.

During the draft it is likely they would have had more leverage.
True. However leading up to the draft, during, day 2,3and post draft.. Trades happen.

We drafted him in the 6th.. as an older player coming out.. developed him and got what a 5th? Maybe the organization felt that he and Drake would clash?? When Dobbs got signed I knew then for sure Milton was gone.

Hey.. wait a minute..

Again - WHY do people think Milton was worth more than a 5th? He was drafted in the 6th one year ago, so the league valued him as a 6th. All he has done since then was beat Buffalo's 3rd string in a game that his opponent was actively trying to lose. That's not really any different from winning a pre-season game. Whoop dee doo? It elevated his value one round, which is better than nothing.

I don't know why people think that his one game of action against back-of-roster talent and an opponent throwing the game somehow skyrocketed his value. I had him pegged as a 4th at best.
The point is that Milton as back-up QB is worth much more than a 5th round rookie, even if its another QB

Milton has showed promise that other guys taken in these rounds dont, even if its very limited exposure to NFL quality.

Not too long ago people were asking for a 2nd and/or 3rd for him (i pegged a 3rd back then)

In general, A 5th round rookie is a borderline roster player, Milton was already the QB#2

This is a very weird trade, Ross, unless the managent is sure of something not known publicaly

Fun fact: Milton was on the practice

FWIW.

It all makes sense... I was reading reports that he had let the organization know going back to last Season that he should be a starter.. love the confidence in him.. buy this would have basically caused issues with Drake and the coaching staff..
